Figure 3.1: Steps for adding fuel and engine oil.

  1. Remove the fuel tank cap and add unleaded gasoline.
  2. Add engine oil up to the oil inlet. (Engine oil capacity: 0.4L, sold separately).
  3. Set the Eco-mode switch (black) to OFF and the Engine switch (red) to ON.
  4. Set the fuel cock knob to the ON position.
  5. Pull the choke lever to the right, to the OFF position.
  6. Pull the recoil starter handle firmly until it feels heavy, then pull it out with force to start.
  7. Once started, pull the choke lever to the left, to the ON position.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to operate your SAKOBS QL2000ix generator.

Starting the Engine

Two images illustrating the generator startup procedure with choke lever positions

Figure 4.1: Generator startup procedure.

Using the Recoil Starter:

  • Pull the recoil starter handle firmly to start the engine.
  • If the engine is warm, pull the recoil starter cord with the choke lever in the 'Open' position.

Using the Engine Switch:

  • Turn the engine switch to the 'Start' position to start the engine.

Once the engine starts and the green output lamp illuminates, return the choke lever to the 'Run' position and connect your electrical appliances to the outlet.

Frequency Selection (50Hz/60Hz)

This generator supports both 50Hz and 60Hz frequencies, making it suitable for use in both Eastern and Western Japan. Ensure the correct frequency is selected for your region and appliances.

Continuous Operation

With a 10L fuel tank, the generator can operate for approximately 11.5 hours under no-load conditions and up to 7 hours under maximum load conditions. This large fuel tank allows for extended continuous operation, increasing work efficiency.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliable performance of your generator.

General Checks

  • Engine Oil: Check the engine oil level before each use. Ensure it is between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick. Use 10W-30 mobile oil.
  • Fuel: Ensure there is sufficient unleaded gasoline. Do not overfill.
  • Air Filter: Inspect the air filter regularly and clean or replace it if it is dirty. A clogged air filter can reduce engine performance.
  • Spark Plug: Check the spark plug for wear and proper gap. Replace if necessary.
  • General Condition: Inspect the generator for any loose parts, damage, or fuel/oil leaks. Address any issues before operation.

6. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your generator.

Engine Does Not Start or is Difficult to Start

  • Check Fuel Level: Ensure there is enough gasoline in the tank.
  • Check Engine Oil Level: The generator has an oil warning system. If the oil level is too low, the engine will not start or will stop.
  • Choke Lever Position: For a cold engine, ensure the choke lever is in the 'Closed' position during startup. Once the engine warms up, move it to the 'Open' position. For a warm engine, start with the choke lever in the 'Open' position.
  • Engine Switch: Ensure the engine switch is in the 'ON' or 'Start' position.
  • Spark Plug: A dirty or faulty spark plug can prevent starting. Inspect and clean or replace if necessary.
  • Fuel Cock: Ensure the fuel cock knob is in the 'ON' position.

Fuel Leakage from Tank Cap

As noted in the safety information, the fuel tank cap is designed to allow air to escape and is not hermetically sealed. This means fuel may leak if the generator is tilted. Always keep the generator upright during operation and storage. When transporting, ensure the fuel tank is empty or use a separate portable fuel can.

Overload Indicator Lamp Illuminates / Engine Stops

  • Reduce Load: The generator may be overloaded. Disconnect some appliances to reduce the electrical load.
  • Check Appliance Wattage: Ensure the total wattage of connected appliances does not exceed the generator's rated output (1.7KVA / 1700W). Starting current for some appliances (e.g., compressors, heat guns) can be much higher than their running wattage.
  • Eco-mode Switch: If the Eco-mode switch is ON, the engine speed adjusts to the load. For high-demand appliances, turn Eco-mode OFF to allow the engine to run at full speed.
