4. Product Overview and Components

Familiarize yourself with the main components of your AS186 airbrush compressor.

TIMBERTECH AS186 Airbrush Compressor main view

Figure 4.1: Overall view of the TIMBERTECH AS186 Airbrush Compressor. This image displays the compact design, integrated carry handle, and the main components including the motor unit, air tank, and pressure regulator assembly.

AS186 Compressor components: On/Off switch, Heat Dissipation Fins, Air Release Valve, Water Drain Valve

Figure 4.2: Key functional components. This image highlights the On/Off switch for power control, efficient heat dissipation fin design on the motor, the air release valve for depressurizing, and the water drain valve located at the bottom of the tank.

Air pressure regulator with knob control and gauge

Figure 4.3: Air Pressure Regulator. This component allows for precise adjustment of the output air pressure using the knob control. The integrated gauge displays the current pressure in both PSI and Bar. To adjust, pull the knob up and rotate, then push down to lock.

Compressor features: Suction pads, Auto Start/Stop, Water Drain Button

Figure 4.4: Additional features. This image shows the suction pads for stability during operation, the auto start (3 Bar / 43 PSI) and auto stop (4 Bar / 58 PSI) pressure settings, and the drain button for releasing accumulated water from the moisture trap.

5. Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
  2. Placement: Place the compressor on a stable, level surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit. The suction pads on the feet (refer to Figure 4.4) will help secure it.
  3. Connect Air Hose: Attach your airbrush hose (not included) to the air outlet on the pressure regulator. Ensure a secure, airtight connection.
  4. Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a grounded 120V electrical outlet.
  5. Initial Pressure Check: Before turning on, ensure the pressure regulator knob is set to a low pressure or fully counter-clockwise to prevent sudden pressure surges.

6. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Flip the On/Off switch (refer to Figure 4.2) to the 'On' position. The compressor will begin to fill the 3-liter air tank.
  2. Pressure Adjustment:
    • Pull up the pressure regulator knob (refer to Figure 4.3).
    • Rotate the knob clockwise to increase pressure or counter-clockwise to decrease pressure. Observe the gauge for the desired setting.
    • Once the desired pressure is set, push the knob down to lock it in place.
  3. Automatic Operation: The AS186 features an auto start/stop function. The compressor will automatically start when the tank pressure drops to approximately 3 Bar (43 PSI) and stop when it reaches approximately 4 Bar (58 PSI) (refer to Figure 4.4). This maintains consistent pressure and extends motor life.
  4. Using Your Airbrush: Connect your airbrush to the hose and begin your work. The compressor will maintain the set pressure.
  5. Power Off: When finished, turn the On/Off switch to the 'Off' position. Disconnect the airbrush and depressurize the system by briefly opening the air release valve or by using your airbrush until the gauge reads zero.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your compressor. Always unplug the compressor before performing any maintenance.

  1. Drain Moisture from Tank: After each use, or at least daily, drain any accumulated moisture from the air tank.
    • Ensure the compressor is off and depressurized.
    • Locate the water drain valve at the bottom of the tank (refer to Figure 4.2).
    • Open the valve to release condensed water. Close it securely afterward.
  2. Drain Moisture from Moisture Trap: The moisture trap (part of the regulator assembly) also collects water.
    • Press upward on the drain button at the bottom of the moisture trap to release collected water (refer to Figure 4.4). Do not press this button when the machine is working or when the pressure stops.
  3. Clean Air Filter: Periodically check and clean the air filter located on the intake side of the compressor. A clogged filter can reduce performance.
  4. General Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior of the compressor with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Compressor does not turn on.No power, faulty switch, tripped circuit breaker.Check power connection. Ensure switch is 'On'. Check circuit breaker.
No air output or low pressure.Air hose disconnected, regulator set too low, clogged air filter, leak in system.Check hose connections. Adjust regulator. Clean air filter. Check for leaks.
Compressor runs continuously.Leak in air system, faulty auto-stop sensor.Check all connections for leaks. If problem persists, contact support.
Excessive noise or vibration.Loose components, compressor not on a stable surface.Check for loose parts. Ensure compressor is on a stable, level surface.
Compressor overheats and shuts off.Poor ventilation, prolonged heavy use.Ensure adequate ventilation. Allow compressor to cool down. Reduce continuous operating time.
