Setup

Initial Winding:

As an automatic watch, the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date is powered by the motion of your wrist. However, for initial setup or after a period of inactivity, manual winding is recommended to build up the power reserve.

  1. Gently unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it pops out to position 1 (winding position).
  2. Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will initiate the movement and build a sufficient power reserve.
  3. The watch will begin to run.

Setting the Time and Date:

  1. Pull the crown out to position 2 (time setting position). The seconds hand will stop.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the hour and minute hands. Ensure you set the correct AM/PM time, as the date change occurs around midnight.
  3. Once the time is set, push the crown back in to position 1.
  4. To set the date, pull the crown out to position 1 (winding position).
  5. Turn the crown counter-clockwise to advance the pointer date hand to the desired date.
  6. Once the date is set, gently push the crown back in and screw it down clockwise until it is fully secured against the case. This ensures water resistance.

Operating Your Watch

Automatic Winding:

Once the watch is running, normal daily wear will keep the mainspring wound. The rotor, visible through the exhibition caseback, rotates with wrist movement, winding the watch automatically. If the watch is worn regularly (8-10 hours a day), it should maintain its power reserve.

Water Resistance:

Your Oris Big Crown Pointer Date watch is water-resistant up to 50 meters (165 feet). This rating means it is suitable for short periods of recreational swimming, but not for diving or prolonged submersion. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water.

  • 50m (5 ATM): Suitable for showering, bathing, and shallow swimming.
  • Not suitable for: Snorkeling, diving, or high-impact water sports.

Avoid operating the crown or pushers (if any) when the watch is wet or submerged, as this can compromise water resistance.

Maintenance

Cleaning:

To maintain the appearance of your watch, regularly wipe the case and bracelet with a soft, dry cloth. For stainless steel components, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Storage:

When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields. A watch box or pouch is ideal for protection.

Servicing:

Mechanical watches require periodic servicing to ensure optimal performance and longevity. Oris recommends a full service every 3-5 years. This service typically includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement, as well as replacement of seals to maintain water resistance.

For authorized service, please visit the official Oris website or contact an authorized Oris service center. Oris Service Information
