Setup

1. Connecting the Unit

The JVC VHS to DVD Recorder VCR Combo offers multiple connectivity options for integration with your television or other audio/video equipment.

  • HDMI Connection (Recommended): For the best video and audio quality, connect one end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI OUT port on the rear of the JVC unit and the other end to an HDMI IN port on your television. Select the corresponding HDMI input on your TV.
  • AV (RCA) Connection: Connect the yellow (video), white (left audio), and red (right audio) RCA cables from the AV OUT ports on the JVC unit to the corresponding AV IN ports on your television. Select the appropriate AV input on your TV.
  • Audio Connections (Optional): For separate audio systems, use the Digital Audio (Optical or Coaxial) or Analog Audio (RCA) outputs.

2. Power Connection

Connect the AC power cord from the unit to a standard electrical outlet.

3. Remote Control Setup

Insert two AA batteries into the remote control, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the battery compartment.

Operating Instructions

Playing VHS Tapes

  1. Insert a VHS tape into the VCR slot.
  2. Press the PLAY button on the unit or remote control.
  3. Use the STOP, PAUSE, REWIND, and FAST FORWARD buttons for playback control.
  4. To eject the tape, press the EJECT button.

Playing DVDs

  1. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the DVD tray.
  2. Place a DVD disc onto the tray with the label side facing up.
  3. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the tray.
  4. The disc should begin playing automatically. If not, press the PLAY button.
  5. Use the STOP, PAUSE, SKIP, and SEARCH buttons for playback control.
  6. To eject the disc, press the OPEN/CLOSE button.

Recording from VHS to DVD

This unit is designed to easily transfer VHS content to DVD. Ensure you have a blank, recordable DVD (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW) inserted into the DVD tray.

  1. Insert the VHS tape you wish to record into the VCR slot.
  2. Insert a blank recordable DVD into the DVD tray.
  3. Ensure the unit is in the correct input mode for VHS playback (usually automatic when a tape is inserted).
  4. Press the RECORD button on the remote or unit. The recording will begin from the current position of the VHS tape.
  5. To stop recording, press the STOP button.
  6. Important: Finalizing the DVD: After recording, it is crucial to "finalize" the DVD to ensure it can be played on other DVD players. Refer to the on-screen menu (OSD) for the "Finalize Disc" option. This process writes the necessary disc structure.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Unit: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Disc and Tape Care: Keep DVDs and VHS tapes clean and free of dust and fingerprints. Store them in their cases when not in use.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the unit has adequate ventilation. Do not block the ventilation slots.
  • Power Off: Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet if the unit will not be used for an extended period.
