5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

The Andoer AD-960II requires four (4) AA batteries (not included) for operation.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the side or back of the speedlite.
  2. Slide the cover open according to the arrow indicator.
  3. Insert four AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely until it clicks into place.

Note: For optimal performance and recycle times, use high-quality alkaline or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries.

5.2 Mounting on Camera

To mount the speedlite onto your camera's hot-shoe:

  1. Ensure both the speedlite and camera are powered off.
  2. Slide the speedlite's mounting foot into the camera's hot-shoe slot.
  3. Tighten the locking ring or lever on the speedlite's foot to secure it firmly to the hot-shoe. Do not overtighten.

Important Compatibility Note: This speedlite is NOT compatible with CANON 1500D, 3000D, 200D II, 2000D, 4000D, Rebel T7, Rebel, KISS X90.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

Press and hold the power button (usually marked with a power symbol) for a few seconds to turn the speedlite on or off. The LCD display will illuminate upon power-on.

6.2 Mode Selection

Press the "MODE" button to cycle through the available flash modes:

  • M (Manual Mode): Allows you to manually set the flash output power.
  • Multi (Stroboscopic Mode): Fires a series of rapid flashes to capture multiple movements in a single exposure.
  • S1 (Optical Slave Mode): The flash fires in sync with the main flash, ignoring pre-flashes.
  • S2 (Pre-flash Cancel Slave Mode): The flash fires in sync with the main flash, but ignores the pre-flash from the master unit.

6.3 Flash Output Adjustment (M Mode)

In Manual (M) mode, use the directional buttons (often marked with arrows or +/-) to adjust the flash output power from 1/1 (full power) down to 1/128. Fine-tuning is available in 1/3 stop increments, offering 22 levels of control.

6.4 Manual Zoom Adjustment

The flash coverage can be manually adjusted to match your lens's focal length. Use the zoom buttons (often marked "ZOOM" or with lens icons) to cycle through the available focal lengths: 18mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 85mm, 105mm, 135mm, and 180mm.

6.5 Flash Head Rotation

The flash head can be rotated to direct light for bounce flash or creative lighting:

  • Vertical Rotation: Adjusts from -7 degrees (downward tilt) to 90 degrees (straight up).
  • Horizontal Rotation: Adjusts from 0 degrees (forward) to 270 degrees (full swivel).

6.6 Additional Functions

  • Sound Prompt: An audible beep indicates when the flash is fully recycled and ready to fire. This can usually be toggled on/off via a menu setting.
  • Power Saving Function: The unit will enter a sleep mode after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life. Press any button or half-press your camera's shutter button to wake it up.
  • Over-Heat Protection: To prevent damage from excessive heat during rapid firing, the unit may temporarily disable flashing until it cools down.
