3. Setup

Setting up your DOKIO portable solar panel is straightforward. Follow these steps for optimal performance:

3.1 Unfolding and Positioning

Unfold the solar panel completely. For maximum efficiency, position the panel directly facing the sun at a 90-degree angle. Avoid any shading on the panel surface from trees, buildings, or other objects, as this can significantly reduce power output.

3.2 Connecting to Power Stations

For most power stations (e.g., Jackery, Goal Zero, Ecoflow, Paxcess), connect the SAE connector from the solar panel to the XT60 cable, then use the appropriate DC conversion adapter to plug into your power station. The included 20A controller is not required for direct connection to power stations.

3.3 Connecting to 12V Batteries

For charging 12V batteries (AGM, LiFePo4, Deep cycle batteries), connect the SAE connector from the solar panel to the 20A controller. Then, connect the XT60 to Alligator clip cable from the controller to your 12V battery terminals, ensuring correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative). The controller will manage the charging process and protect against overcharging.

For detailed instructions on using the controller, refer to the video below:

4. Operating Instructions

To ensure optimal power generation from your DOKIO solar panel, consider the following factors:

  • Sun Intensity: Solar panels perform best in direct, strong sunlight.
  • Panel Angle: Always point the solar panel directly at the sun (ideally 90 degrees) to maximize energy capture.
  • No Shading: Ensure the panel is not covered and there are no shadows cast upon its surface. Even partial shading can significantly reduce output.
  • Power Station Limits: Be aware that some power stations may have input power limits, which can affect the actual wattage received, regardless of the panel's maximum output.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and efficiency of your solar panel:

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the surface of the solar module with a damp cloth to remove any dust, dirt, or debris. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all cables and connections for any signs of wear, damage, or loose fittings.
  • Storage: When not in use, fold the panel and store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The included carrying bag is ideal for protection.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DOKIO solar panel, consider the following:

  • Low Power Output:
    • Ensure the panel is in direct sunlight and not shaded.
    • Verify the panel is angled correctly towards the sun.
    • Check for dirt or debris on the panel surface and clean if necessary.
    • Confirm your power station or battery system does not have an input power limit that is lower than the panel's output.
  • Charging Issues:
    • Double-check all cable connections for proper seating and polarity.
    • If using the controller, ensure it is functioning correctly and the battery type is selected appropriately (refer to Video 3.2).
    • Verify the battery being charged is compatible with the solar panel and controller.
  • Controller Display Not Working:
    • Ensure the controller is properly connected to both the solar panel and the battery.
    • Verify there is sufficient sunlight reaching the panel for the controller to activate.
