2.1 Initial Combination

Your Kensington N17 Combination Lock comes with a preset combination, typically 0-0-0-0. Please verify this initial combination before attempting to reset it.

2.2 Setting Your Personal Combination

  1. Ensure the lock is set to the current combination (factory default is 0-0-0-0).
  2. Locate the reset button or mechanism on the side or bottom of the lock head. This is often a small, recessed button that requires a pen tip or similar pointed object to press.
  3. With the current combination displayed, press and hold the reset button.
  4. While holding the reset button, rotate the dials to your desired new 4-digit combination. Choose a memorable but secure combination.
  5. Release the reset button. Your new combination is now set.
  6. Important: Write down your new combination and store it in a safe, memorable place. Kensington cannot retrieve forgotten combinations for combination locks.

4. Maintenance

  • Keep the lock mechanism clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Avoid exposing the lock to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals.
  • Periodically check the cable for any signs of wear or damage. If the cable is damaged, discontinue use and replace the lock.
  • Do not attempt to lubricate the lock mechanism with oil-based products, as this can attract dirt and cause jamming.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Lock Will Not Engage/Disengage

  • Incorrect Combination: Ensure you have entered the correct 4-digit combination. Double-check each dial.
  • Obstruction: Check the security slot on your device and the lock head for any debris or foreign objects that might be preventing proper engagement.
  • Improper Alignment: Ensure the lock head is correctly aligned with the security slot before attempting to insert or remove it.

5.2 Forgotten Combination

Unfortunately, if you have forgotten your combination and did not record it, there is no master key or backdoor to reset the lock. Kensington combination locks are designed for security, meaning only the user with the correct combination can open them. You may need to replace the lock.
