3.1 Compatibility Check
Ensure your electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid uses a J1772 charging port. This adapter is designed for Level 2 AC charging from Tesla Wall Connectors, Destination Chargers, and Mobile Connectors. It is NOT compatible with Tesla Superchargers.
3.2 Connecting the Adapter
- Connect Tesla Charger to Adapter: Take the Tesla charging cable and firmly insert its connector into the Tesla-compatible end of the Lectron J1772 Adapter. Ensure it clicks securely into place. You may need to press the red button on the adapter to fully engage the Tesla connector.
- Connect Adapter to EV: Once the Tesla charger is securely connected to the adapter, plug the J1772 end of the adapter into your electric vehicle's J1772 charging port. Ensure it clicks securely.

3.3 Tesla Wall Connector Settings (if applicable)
If using a Tesla Wall Connector, ensure its access settings are configured to "Any Electric Vehicle" via the Tesla app. If charging issues occur, try enabling "Compatibility Mode" in the Tesla app settings for the wall connector.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Initiating Charge
After connecting the adapter as described in the Setup section, your EV should begin charging automatically. Some vehicles or chargers may require a brief moment (e.g., 10-30 seconds) for the vehicle and charger to establish communication before charging commences. Observe your vehicle's charging indicator to confirm that charging has started.
4.2 Disconnecting After Charge
To safely disconnect the adapter after charging is complete:
- First, press the red button located on the Tesla adapter end to release the Tesla charging cable.
- Next, press the black button (or release mechanism) on the J1772 end of the adapter to detach it from your electric vehicle.
- Store the adapter in its carrying pouch in a dry, safe place.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the adapter with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the adapter in its provided carrying pouch in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the adapter for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion. Do not use the adapter if it appears damaged.
- Waterproof/Dustproof: The adapter has an IP65 rating, indicating it is protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets. However, avoid submerging it in water.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Charging Not Initiating
- Secure Connection: Ensure both the Tesla charger and the J1772 adapter are firmly connected and clicked into place.
- Tesla App Settings: Verify that the Tesla Wall Connector's access settings are set to "Any Electric Vehicle" in the Tesla app. If issues persist, try "Compatibility Mode."
- Waiting Period: Allow 10-30 seconds for the vehicle and charger to communicate before assuming a fault.
- Charger Status: Check the status indicator on the Tesla charger itself to ensure it is active and ready to dispense power.
6.2 Slow Charging Speed
- Charger Output: Ensure the Tesla charger is providing its maximum output. The adapter supports up to 40A and 250V.
- Vehicle Acceptance: Your EV's onboard charger may limit the charging speed. Consult your vehicle's manual for its maximum AC charging rate.
6.3 Adapter Overheating
- Environmental Factors: High ambient temperatures can affect performance. Ensure adequate ventilation around the adapter.
- Continuous Use: While designed for durability, prolonged high-power charging in extreme conditions might cause warmth. If the adapter feels excessively hot, disconnect it and allow it to cool before resuming use.
