Setup
Battery Installation
The DY4100 requires 6 x AA 1.5V batteries (UM3) and 1 x 12V battery (not included). To install or replace batteries:
- Ensure the device is turned off (Function Switch set to "OFF").
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert the batteries, observing correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
A low battery warning symbol will appear on the display when batteries need replacement.
Connecting Test Leads
Connect the test leads to the appropriate terminals (E, P, C, V) according to the specific earth resistance testing method being used (e.g., 3-pole or 2-pole method). Refer to standard electrical testing practices for correct lead placement for your application.
Operating Instructions
Measuring Earth Resistance
- Ensure the device is properly set up with batteries and test leads connected.
- Turn the Function Switch to the desired earth resistance range (20Ω, 200Ω, or 2000Ω). The device features auto-ranging within these selections.
- Press the Test key to initiate the measurement. The green "OK" lamp should illuminate.
- Read the earth resistance value displayed on the LCD.
- To hold the reading, press the Hold key. Press it again to release.
- After measurement, turn the Function Switch to "OFF".
Measuring Earth Voltage
- Connect the test leads for earth voltage measurement (typically between E and V terminals).
- Turn the Function Switch to the "EARTH VOLTAGE" position.
- The earth voltage will be displayed on the LCD. No "Test" button press is required for voltage measurement.
- After measurement, turn the Function Switch to "OFF".
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Storage: Store the tester in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
- Calibration: Regular calibration by qualified personnel is recommended to ensure measurement accuracy.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Dead or incorrectly installed batteries. | Check battery polarity; replace batteries. |
| Inaccurate readings. | Poor test lead connections; environmental interference; device out of calibration. | Ensure secure connections; re-test in a different location; consider professional calibration. |
| "Low Battery" warning displayed. | Batteries are low. | Replace all batteries. |
