4. Setup

4.1. Adjusting Eyecups

The twist-up eyecups can be adjusted to provide comfortable viewing with or without eyeglasses. Twist the eyecups up or down until you achieve a full field of view without any dark edges (vignetting).

4.2. Adjusting Interpupillary Distance (IPD)

The interpupillary distance (IPD) is the distance between the centers of your pupils. To adjust the IPD, hold the binoculars firmly and move the two barrels closer together or further apart until you see a single, clear circular field of view.

4.3. Adjusting the Diopter

The diopter adjustment compensates for differences in vision between your two eyes. Follow these steps:

  1. Choose a distant object and cover the right objective lens (the large front lens) with your hand or the tethered cover.
  2. Look through the binoculars with your left eye and rotate the center focus wheel until the image is sharp.
  3. Now, cover the left objective lens and look through the binoculars with your right eye.
  4. Rotate the diopter ring (on the right eyepiece) until the image is sharp. Do not use the center focus wheel for this step.
  5. Once set, your binoculars are adjusted for your eyes. You should only need to use the center focus wheel for subsequent focusing.

4.4. Attaching the Neck Strap

To attach the comfort neck strap:

  1. Thread the strap through the strap attachment points on the binoculars.
  2. Secure the strap by looping it back through the buckle.
  3. Adjust the length for comfortable carrying around your neck.

4.5. Using the GlassPak Binocular Harness

The GlassPak binocular harness provides a secure and comfortable way to carry your binoculars, allowing for quick access. Follow the instructions provided with your GlassPak harness for proper fitting and use. The harness typically features adjustable straps that go over your shoulders and around your chest, with a pouch for the binoculars.

5. Operating

5.1. Focusing

Once the eyecups and diopter are set for your individual eyes, focusing is straightforward:

  1. Bring the binoculars to your eyes.
  2. Locate your desired object.
  3. Rotate the center focus wheel until the object appears sharp and clear.

For optimal viewing, ensure your eyes are relaxed and the binoculars are held steady. For extended viewing, consider using a tripod with a compatible adapter.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning Lenses

Proper cleaning of the lenses is crucial for maintaining optical quality. Follow these steps:

  1. First, use a soft brush or compressed air to remove any loose dust or debris from the lenses.
  2. Apply a small amount of lens cleaning fluid to the included lens cloth or a clean microfiber cloth.
  3. Gently wipe the lens surface in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards.
  4. Avoid using harsh chemicals, paper towels, or abrasive cloths, as these can scratch the lens coatings.

6.2. General Care

  • Store your binoculars in their protective case when not in use.
  • Avoid exposing binoculars to extreme temperatures for prolonged periods.
  • Keep lens covers on when not viewing to protect against dust and scratches.
  • The rubber armor provides a secure, non-slip grip and durable external protection.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your binoculars, consider the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • Blurred Image: Ensure the center focus wheel and diopter are correctly adjusted for your eyes and the viewing distance.
  • Dark Edges/Vignetting: Adjust the twist-up eyecups and interpupillary distance (IPD) until you achieve a full, circular field of view.
  • Fogging: These binoculars are fogproof due to nitrogen purging and O-ring seals. If internal fogging occurs, contact customer support. External fogging can be wiped away with a lens cloth.
  • Double Image: This usually indicates that the binoculars are out of collimation. This requires professional service; do not attempt to fix it yourself.
