2. Setup and Installation
2.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully unpack the UPS and inspect it for any shipping damage. Retain the packaging for future use. Ensure all components listed in the packing list are present.
2.2 Placement
The Smart-UPS SCL500RM1UC is a 1U rackmount unit. It is suitable for short-depth and standard wall mount racks or IT racks. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

2.3 Rack Mounting
Utilize the included rack mounting support rails to securely install the UPS into a standard 19-inch rack. Follow the instructions provided with the rail kit for proper installation.
2.4 Connecting to Power and Devices
Connect the UPS to a grounded electrical outlet using the integrated NEMA 5-15P input plug. Connect your critical equipment to the four NEMA 5-15R output receptacles on the rear of the UPS. Ensure total load does not exceed 400W.

2.5 Initial Battery Charge
Allow the UPS to charge for at least 24 hours before initial use to ensure full battery capacity. The battery charges whenever the UPS is connected to AC power.
3. Operating the UPS
3.1 Powering On/Off
To power on the UPS, press the power button on the front panel. To power off, press and hold the power button until the unit shuts down.
3.2 LED Indicators
The front LED display provides real-time status information:
- Online/On Battery: Indicates whether the UPS is operating on utility power or battery power.
- SmartConnect Status: Shows the status of the remote monitoring connection.
- Network Status: Indicates network connectivity.
- Event Detected: Alerts to specific events or issues.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Battery Care and Replacement
The Smart-UPS SCL500RM1UC utilizes Lithium Ion batteries, which offer a longer lifespan compared to traditional lead-acid batteries. The UPS features hot-swappable batteries, allowing for replacement without powering down connected equipment. When the "Replace Battery" LED illuminates, it indicates that the battery needs to be replaced. Contact APC support or an authorized service provider for genuine replacement batteries.
The UPS and its battery are covered by a 5-year warranty.
4.2 General Cleaning
