1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the QEP 36" Slimline Manual Tile Cutter. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new tile cutter. Please read this manual thoroughly before use and retain it for future reference.
The QEP Slimline Series Tile Cutter is engineered for professional use, designed to cut most ceramic and porcelain tiles up to 36 inches in length. Its unique ultra-slim design, measuring only 5-1/2 inches wide, makes it lightweight and easy to transport. Key features include heavy rubber pads for cutting stability, dual chrome-plated rail bars, and linear ball bearing slides for exceptionally smooth scoring. The cutter is equipped with a durable 7/8 inch titanium-coated tungsten-carbide ball bearing cutting wheel, ensuring long-lasting performance even with hard porcelain tiles. For larger format tiles, the base includes four convenient side arm extensions.

3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the tile cutter from its packaging. Inspect all components for any signs of damage during shipping. Ensure all parts listed in the 'Included Components' section (see Specifications) are present.
3.2 Preparing the Work Area
Place the tile cutter on a flat, stable, and clean surface. The heavy rubber pads on the base provide cutting stability, but a firm foundation is crucial for accurate cuts.
3.3 Extending Side Arm Supports
For cutting large format tiles, extend the four side arm extensions located on the base of the cutter. These arms provide additional support to prevent the tile from tipping during the scoring and breaking process.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Preparing the Tile
Measure and mark the desired cut line on your ceramic or porcelain tile. Ensure the tile is clean and free of debris.
4.2 Positioning the Tile
Place the tile on the cutter's base, aligning the marked cut line with the scoring wheel. Utilize the metal rip guide to help measure and hold the tile securely in place, ensuring accuracy during the cut. For diagonal cuts, align the corner of the tile with the scoring wheel.

4.3 Scoring the Tile
Lower the handle so the scoring wheel makes contact with the tile. Apply firm, consistent pressure and push the handle forward along the dual chrome-plated rail bars. The linear ball bearing slides ensure a smooth and precise score line across the entire tile surface. A single, continuous score is generally recommended for best results.

4.4 Breaking the Tile
Once the tile is scored, position the breaking bar directly over the scored line. Apply quick, downward pressure on the handle to snap the tile along the score. The reinforced thick steel base and tile support arms provide stability during this process.

4.5 Cutting Capacities
- Rip Cut: Up to 36 inch tile.
- Diagonal Cut: Up to 25 inch tile.
- Tile Depth: Up to 1/2 inch (13 mm) maximum.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
After each use, wipe down the tile cutter with a damp cloth to remove tile dust and debris. Ensure the rail bars are clean to maintain smooth operation. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
5.2 Scoring Wheel Replacement
The 7/8 inch tungsten-carbide scoring wheel is replaceable. If you notice a decrease in cutting performance or chipping of tiles, it may be time to replace the wheel. The cutter is compatible with the QEP 21178 Scoring Wheel (sold separately). Refer to the QEP website or product packaging for specific replacement instructions.
5.3 Storage
Store the tile cutter in a dry, clean environment, away from extreme temperatures and moisture. Its narrow 5-1/2 inch width makes it less bulky and easy to store.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Tile not scoring cleanly / Chipping | Dull scoring wheel; Insufficient pressure; Incorrect scoring technique; Tile type not suitable. | Replace scoring wheel; Apply firm, consistent pressure; Ensure single, continuous score; Verify tile is ceramic or porcelain. |
| Tile not breaking cleanly / Uneven break | Inconsistent score line; Breaking bar not aligned; Insufficient breaking pressure. | Ensure a straight, consistent score; Align breaking bar precisely over score line; Apply quick, decisive downward pressure. |
| Cutter carriage not sliding smoothly | Dust/debris on rail bars; Damaged rail bars or bearings. | Clean rail bars thoroughly; Inspect for damage, contact support if damaged. |
