5. Setup and Installation

The MUSTART Level 2 EV Charger is designed for plug-and-play operation with a NEMA 14-50 outlet.

5.1 Outlet Requirements

A dedicated 240 Volt NEMA 14-50 outlet is required. This outlet should be installed by a certified electrician and connected to a circuit breaker rated for at least 50 Amps to safely support the charger's 40 Amp output.

5.2 Mounting the Charger (Optional)

The charger comes with mounting brackets for permanent installation. Follow these steps:

  1. Choose a suitable location near your NEMA 14-50 outlet, ensuring the 25-foot cable can reach your vehicle's charging port.
  2. Use the provided screws and anchors to securely attach the control box bracket to a wall stud or appropriate mounting surface.
  3. Mount the cable holder and J1772 connector holster for organized cable management.

5.3 Connecting to Power

Plug the NEMA 14-50P plug of the charger into the dedicated 240 Volt NEMA 14-50 outlet. The charger's display should illuminate, and the power indicator LED (Green) should light up, indicating it is ready for use.

6. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to charge your electric vehicle:

  1. Ensure Power: Confirm the charger is plugged into the NEMA 14-50 outlet and the power indicator (Green LED) is on.
  2. Connect to Vehicle: Open your vehicle's charging port cover. Grasp the J1772 connector firmly and insert it into your vehicle's charging inlet until it clicks into place.
  3. Initiate Charging: The charger will automatically detect the vehicle and begin the charging process. The charging indicator (Red LED) will start pulsing, and the LCD display will show real-time charging information (current, voltage, power, time, etc.).
  4. Monitor Charging: You can monitor the charging status via the charger's LCD display or your vehicle's dashboard/app.
  5. Charging Complete: Once your vehicle's battery is fully charged, the charger will automatically stop charging. The charging indicator (Red LED) will turn off, and the display may show "Charge Complete" or similar.
  6. Disconnect from Vehicle: Press the release button on the J1772 connector and pull it out of your vehicle's charging inlet. Close your vehicle's charging port cover.
  7. Store Charger: Return the J1772 connector to its holster and coil the cable neatly.

Note: For Tesla vehicles, use the appropriate SAE J1772 adapter provided by Tesla.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your charger.

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the charger from the power source. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the control box and cable. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect the charging cable and connector for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. If any damage is found, discontinue use immediately and contact customer support.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the charger in a dry, clean place. Use the provided cable holder and connector holster to prevent tangling and damage.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your charger, refer to the following table. For problems not listed or if solutions do not resolve the issue, contact customer support.
