Follow these steps to properly install your Abask Dash Cam Q40S:

  1. Prepare Memory Card: Insert a MicroSD card (Class 10 or higher, up to 32GB recommended, not included) into the main dash cam unit. Format the card within the dash cam's settings menu before first use.
  2. Mount Main Dash Cam: Attach the main dash cam unit to your front windshield using the suction cup mount. Position it near the center of the windshield, ensuring it does not obstruct your view.
  3. Connect Power: Plug the car charger into your vehicle's cigarette lighter socket. Connect the other end to the main dash cam unit. The camera will automatically power on/off with your vehicle's ignition.
  4. Install Rear Camera:
    • Method 1 (Inside Vehicle): Attach the rear camera to the inside of your rear windshield using the double-sided tape.
    • Method 2 (Outside Vehicle): Install the rear camera near your license plate using the provided screws and double-sided tape.
Route the rear camera cable neatly along the vehicle's interior trim to the main dash cam unit.
  5. Connect for Reversing View (Optional): If you desire a reversing view with parking grid lines, connect the red wire from the rear camera cable to the positive pole of your vehicle's reversing lamp. This will automatically display the rear view when reverse gear is engaged.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • Automatic: The dash cam will automatically power on and begin recording when your vehicle's ignition is turned on. It will power off automatically when the ignition is turned off.
  • Manual: Press and hold the power button to manually turn the device on or off.

5.2 Recording Modes

  • Normal Recording: The dash cam continuously records video in segments (e.g., 1, 3, or 5 minutes) and saves them to the MicroSD card.
  • Emergency Recording (G-Sensor): In the event of a sudden impact or collision, the built-in G-Sensor will automatically detect the event and lock the current video segment, preventing it from being overwritten by loop recording.
  • Parking Mode Recording: When enabled, the dash cam will automatically start recording if motion is detected or an impact occurs while the vehicle is parked. This feature requires a continuous power supply (e.g., hardwiring kit, not included).

6. Function Settings

Access the menu settings on your dash cam to customize the following functions:

  • Loop Recording: Sets the duration of video segments (e.g., 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes). When the memory card is full, the oldest unlocked files will be overwritten.
  • G-Sensor: Adjusts the sensitivity of the G-Sensor (Off/Low/Medium/High). A higher sensitivity will trigger emergency recording more easily.
  • Parking Protection: Enables or disables the parking monitoring feature. When enabled, the camera will record if an impact is detected while parked.
  • Motion Detection: Activates recording when movement is detected in front of the camera while parked.
  • Audio Recording: Toggles audio recording on or off.
  • Date Stamp: Enables or disables the display of date and time on recorded videos.
  • Screen Protection: Sets the time after which the screen will turn off automatically (e.g., 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes) to avoid distraction while driving. Recording continues in the background.
  • Auto Shut-off: Configures the time after which the device will automatically power off if no operation is detected (e.g., 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes).

7. Maintenance

  • Clean Lenses: Regularly clean the camera lenses with a soft, lint-free cloth to ensure clear video quality.
  • Format Memory Card: Format the MicroSD card periodically (e.g., once a month) to prevent data corruption and ensure optimal recording performance. Back up any important files before formatting.
  • Temperature: Avoid exposing the dash cam to extreme temperatures, which can affect battery life and device performance.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates to improve performance and add new features.
