Assembly of the KAC E2 bike rack is designed to be straightforward. Refer to the detailed installation manual (PDF) for visual step-by-step instructions. A link to the official PDF manual is provided below for your convenience.
Required Tools: Wrench (size may vary, typically 17mm or 19mm), Allen key (if applicable).
- Unpack Components: Carefully remove all parts from the packaging and lay them out on a clean, flat surface. Identify each component using the package contents list.
- Attach Hitch Adapter (if necessary): If your vehicle has a 2-inch hitch receiver, slide the 1.25-inch main tube into the 2-inch adapter. Secure it with the provided bolt and nut. For 1.25-inch receivers, this step is not needed.
- Insert into Vehicle Hitch: Slide the main hitch bar assembly into your vehicle's hitch receiver. Align the hitch pin holes and insert the threaded hitch pin. Tighten the anti-wobble bolt securely to minimize movement.
- Assemble Vertical Mast: Attach the vertical mast to the horizontal hitch bar using the designated bolts and nuts. Ensure it is oriented correctly and tightened firmly.
- Install Wheel Trays: Slide the adjustable wheelbase trays onto the horizontal support arms. These trays can be adjusted along the arms to accommodate different bike wheelbases. Secure them in place.
- Attach Padded Frame Hooks: Mount the padded frame hooks onto the vertical mast. These hooks are adjustable and will secure the bike frame.
- Final Checks: Before first use, double-check all bolts, nuts, and pins for tightness. Ensure the rack is stable and does not wobble excessively.

5. Operation
5.1 Loading Bicycles
- Prepare the Rack: Ensure the rack is unfolded and locked in the upright position. Adjust the wheelbase trays to roughly match your bike's wheelbase.
- Place First Bike: Lift the first bicycle onto the rack, aligning its wheels with the trays. The bike closest to the vehicle should be loaded first.
- Secure Wheels: Use the integrated wheel straps to firmly secure both wheels to the trays.
- Secure Frame: Lower the padded frame hook onto the bicycle's top tube. Adjust the turn-knob arm to ensure a snug fit, preventing vertical movement.
- Load Second Bike (if applicable): Repeat the process for the second bicycle, ensuring proper spacing and clearance between bikes and the vehicle.
- Apply Safety Strap: Loop the provided safety strap around both bike frames and the vertical mast of the rack, tightening it to prevent any lateral movement during transit.

5.2 Unloading Bicycles
- Remove Safety Strap: Unfasten and remove the auxiliary safety strap.
- Release Frame Hooks: Loosen the turn-knob arms and raise the padded frame hooks.
- Release Wheel Straps: Unfasten the wheel straps from the trays.
- Remove Bicycles: Carefully lift the bicycles off the rack. Remove the bike furthest from the vehicle first.
5.3 Folding and Storage
The KAC E2 bike rack features a compact folding design for convenient storage and maneuvering when not in use.
- To fold the rack, ensure no bikes are loaded. Locate the quick-release pin or lever near the base of the vertical mast.
- Pull the pin/lever and carefully fold the rack arms upwards or downwards (depending on the specific folding mechanism) until it locks into its compact position.
- This allows for easier parking and reduces the overall length of your vehicle. For long-term storage, the rack can be easily detached from the hitch.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your KAC E2 bike rack.
- Cleaning: Clean the rack regularly with mild soap and water, especially after exposure to road salt, dirt, or harsh weather conditions. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely to prevent rust.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a light lubricant to moving parts, such as hinge points and threaded components, to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion.
- Inspection: Before each use, inspect all bolts, nuts, pins, and straps for tightness and wear. Check the frame for any cracks, bends, or signs of fatigue. Ensure padded hooks and wheel trays are intact.
- Storage: When not in use, store the bike rack in a dry, protected area to prevent exposure to extreme weather, which can prolong its lifespan.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Rack wobbles excessively in hitch. | Anti-wobble bolt not tightened; incorrect hitch adapter used; hitch receiver worn. | Ensure the anti-wobble bolt is fully tightened. Verify the correct hitch adapter (1.25" or 2") is used. If the receiver is worn, consider a hitch tightener or professional inspection. |
| Bikes are not secure or move during transit. | Frame hooks not tight; wheel straps loose; safety strap not used. | Tighten padded frame hooks using the turn-knob. Ensure wheel straps are cinched down. Always use the auxiliary safety strap. |
| Rack is difficult to fold or unfold. | Hinge points are stiff or corroded; release pin/lever is stuck. | Apply a light lubricant to hinge points and the release mechanism. Clean any dirt or debris from the mechanism. |
| Obscured taillights or license plate. | Bike position; rack design. | Adjust bike position if possible. Check local regulations; auxiliary lighting kits or license plate relocation kits may be necessary. |
