1. Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your Durablow TR1001 On/Off Gas Fireplace Remote Control Kit. This wireless system is designed to provide convenient remote control for gas heating appliances such as fireplaces, fire pits, and stoves. It is compatible with millivolt valves and electric spark ignition modules, and can also replace existing wall switches.

2. Important Safety Information

  • ATTENTION: This device is NOT a power supply unit. It functions as a switch designed for connecting to a Millivolt valve, an electric spark ignition module, or as a replacement for a wall switch.
  • The receiver should be kept away from temperatures exceeding 130°F (54°C).
  • Gas fireplace kits are not suitable for locking solenoid gas valve systems.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Determine Fireplace Compatibility

Before installation, verify your fireplace is remote-ready. Look for a wall switch or terminals on your gas valve.

4.2. Receiver Box Dimensions and Battery Installation

The receiver box dimensions are 2.6" (L) x 2.4" (W) x 1.54" (H). Ensure adequate space for installation. Install 4x AA batteries into the receiver box and 2x AAA batteries into the remote transmitter.

4.3. Wiring the Receiver

The receiver can be wired to a millivolt valve, an electric spark ignition module, or used to replace a wall switch. Refer to the diagrams below for specific wiring configurations.

4.3.1. Millivolt Valve Connection

Connect the receiver wires to the TH/TP terminals on your millivolt gas valve. Ensure proper polarity if specified by your valve's manufacturer.

4.3.2. IPI Module Connection

For fireplaces using IPI (Intermittent Pilot Ignition) control modules, connect the receiver as shown in the diagram. This system is compatible with various IPI modules including 593-592, GM-6KA, IPI-6000, SRV593-592, 350-M, IMP-1, J5760, J7728.

4.3.3. Wall Switch Replacement

The receiver can replace an existing wall switch. Ensure the wall switch wiring is correct before connecting the remote receiver.

4.4. Learning the Remote to the Receiver

To establish communication between the remote transmitter and the receiver box:

  1. Ensure batteries are correctly installed in both the transmitter and receiver.
  2. On the receiver box, locate the "LEARN" button (often a small pinhole button).
  3. Using a small pointed object (like a paperclip), press and hold the "LEARN" button until you hear a long beep (approximately 3 seconds).
  4. Within 10 seconds, press either the "ON" or "OFF" button on the remote transmitter. You should hear several short beeps from the receiver, indicating successful pairing.

5. Operating Instructions

The Durablow TR1001 provides simple On/Off control for your gas fireplace.

  • To Turn ON: Press the ON button on the remote transmitter. The fireplace will ignite.
  • To Turn OFF: Press the OFF button on the remote transmitter. The fireplace will extinguish.
  • The system operates at a range of up to 20 feet with a non-directional RF signal.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Battery Replacement

Replace batteries in both the transmitter and receiver regularly to ensure optimal performance and prevent leakage. It is strongly recommended to use Energizer Lithium Batteries or other high-quality alkaline batteries.

  • Transmitter: Requires (2) 1.5V AAA batteries.
  • Receiver: Requires (4) AA batteries.

If the remote's range decreases or the fireplace responds inconsistently, replace the batteries.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Fireplace does not respond to remote:
    • Check if batteries in both transmitter and receiver are fresh and correctly installed.
    • Ensure the remote and receiver are properly paired (refer to Section 4.4).
    • Verify the receiver's slide switch is in the "REMOTE" position.
    • Confirm all wiring connections are secure and correct according to the diagrams in Section 4.3.
    • Ensure the receiver is not exposed to temperatures above 130°F.
  • Remote range is limited:
    • Replace batteries in both units.
    • Ensure no large metal objects are obstructing the signal path between the remote and receiver.
