Introduction
Thank you for choosing the DB Drive Woxx 5K MONO 1 Channel Surface Mount Amplifier. This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your amplifier. Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting installation or operation to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Safety Precautions
- Always disconnect the vehicle's battery negative terminal before starting any installation.
- Ensure all wiring is properly routed and secured to prevent damage or short circuits.
- Use appropriate gauge wiring for power and ground connections as specified in this manual.
- Mount the amplifier securely in a location that allows for adequate ventilation and is protected from moisture and excessive heat.
- Consult a professional car audio installer if you are unsure about any part of the installation process.
Installation
Mounting the Amplifier
Select a mounting location that is dry, well-ventilated, and secure. Avoid mounting the amplifier directly on carpet or in enclosed spaces without airflow. Ensure there is sufficient space around the amplifier for air circulation.
Wiring Connections
Refer to the diagram below for proper wiring connections. All connections should be tight and free from corrosion.

Figure 1: Overview of the DB Drive WDX 5K amplifier showing power, ground, remote, speaker, and RCA input terminals. The blue LED indicator is visible on the top surface.
Power Connection (B+)
Connect a heavy-gauge power cable (0 gauge recommended) directly from the positive terminal of the vehicle's battery to the B+ terminal on the amplifier. Install an appropriate fuse holder with a fuse (not included) within 18 inches of the battery.
Ground Connection (GND)
Connect a heavy-gauge ground cable (0 gauge recommended) from the GND terminal on the amplifier to a clean, unpainted metal surface of the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a solid, low-resistance connection.
Remote Turn-On (REM)
Connect a remote turn-on wire from your head unit's remote output to the REM terminal on the amplifier. This wire signals the amplifier to turn on and off with your audio system.
Speaker Output
Connect your subwoofer(s) to the speaker output terminals. This amplifier is a mono-channel amplifier, designed for subwoofer applications. Ensure the total impedance of your speakers matches the amplifier's stable operating impedance (1 ohm stable).
RCA Input
Connect RCA cables from your head unit's subwoofer pre-out to the RCA input jacks on the amplifier.
Controls and Adjustments
The DB Drive WDX 5K amplifier features several controls to fine-tune its performance with your audio system.

Figure 2: Side view of the DB Drive WDX 5K amplifier, highlighting the control panel with gain, low-pass filter, and bass boost adjustments.
Gain Control (Input Level)
This control matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the output level of your head unit. Start with the gain set to minimum and slowly increase it until you achieve a clean, undistorted sound at your desired volume level. Avoid setting the gain too high, as this can cause distortion and damage to your speakers.
Low-Pass Filter (LPF)
The LPF control allows you to set the upper frequency limit for the amplifier's output. This is crucial for subwoofers, as it ensures they only reproduce low frequencies. Adjust the LPF to blend smoothly with your main speakers.
Bass Boost
The Bass Boost control provides an adjustable boost at a specific low frequency. Use this feature sparingly and adjust carefully to avoid distortion. Excessive bass boost can lead to speaker damage.
Operation
Once properly installed and adjusted, the amplifier will turn on automatically with your head unit. The blue LED indicator on the amplifier's top surface will illuminate when the amplifier is operational. If the amplifier enters protection mode (e.g., due to overheating or a short circuit), the LED may change color or turn off. In such cases, turn off your audio system, identify and resolve the issue, and then restart.
Maintenance
- Keep the amplifier clean and free from dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Ensure adequate ventilation around the amplifier at all times.
- Periodically check all wiring connections for tightness and signs of corrosion.
- Avoid exposing the amplifier to extreme temperatures or moisture.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No Power / No Sound | Blown fuse, loose power/ground/remote wire, faulty head unit. | Check amplifier fuse and external fuse. Verify all power, ground, and remote connections. Test head unit output. |
| Distorted Sound | Gain set too high, improper LPF setting, poor quality input signal, speaker impedance mismatch. | Reduce gain. Adjust LPF. Check RCA cables. Verify speaker impedance. |
| Amplifier Overheats | Insufficient ventilation, speaker impedance too low, prolonged high output. | Ensure adequate airflow. Check speaker impedance. Reduce volume or gain. |
| Protection Mode Activated | Short circuit in speaker wiring, overheating, low voltage. | Inspect speaker wires for shorts. Allow amplifier to cool. Check vehicle's electrical system. |
