2. Important Safety Instructions

3.2 Speaker Connections
The TX-NR797 supports 5.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos and DTS:X configurations, as well as 9.2 channel setups. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) when connecting speakers.
- Connect your front speakers to the FRONT L/R terminals.
- Connect your center speaker to the CENTER terminal.
- Connect your surround speakers to the SURROUND L/R terminals.
- For Dolby Atmos/DTS:X, connect height speakers to the HEIGHT 1 L/R terminals.
- For 7.1 or 9.2 channel setups, connect additional speakers to SURROUND BACK L/R or HEIGHT 2 (Zone 3) terminals as needed.
- Connect powered subwoofers to the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT terminals using RCA cables.
CAUTION: Speaker impedance should be between 4 and 16 ohms per speaker. Refer to the instruction manual for correct settings if using bi-amp or Zone 2/3 configurations.
3.3 HDMI Connections
Use high-speed HDMI cables for optimal performance, especially for 4K/HDR content.
- Connect your display (TV/Projector) to the HDMI OUT MAIN terminal. If your display supports Audio Return Channel (ARC), ensure this feature is enabled on both the receiver and your display.
- Connect your source devices (Blu-ray player, game console, cable box, streaming device, PC) to the HDMI IN 1-6 terminals.
- The HDMI OUT SUB/ZONE 2 can be used for a second display in another room or a second display in the main room.
3.4 Audio and Other Connections
- For digital audio sources without HDMI, use the DIGITAL IN (COAXIAL/OPTICAL) ports.
- For analog audio sources (e.g., CD player, turntable), use the AUDIO IN RCA jacks. Connect a turntable to the PHONO input and ensure the ground wire is connected to the GND terminal.
- Connect an Ethernet cable to the ETHERNET port for network features and firmware updates.
- Use the USB port for media playback from USB storage devices.
- Connect the supplied AM/FM antennas to the TUNER terminals for radio reception.
3.5 Power Connection
After all other connections are made, connect the power cord to the AC INLET on the rear panel and then to a wall outlet.

- Connect the supplied setup microphone to the SETUP MIC jack on the front panel.
- Follow the on-screen instructions displayed on your TV to initiate and complete the calibration process.
4.3 Network Features and Streaming
The TX-NR797 supports various network features for enhanced connectivity and streaming.
- AirPlay 2: Stream audio directly from Apple devices.
