4. Operating Instructions
Your Smeg P875AO cooktop features five radiant heating zones, each controlled by a dedicated knob.
4.1 Heating Zones Overview
- Rear Left: 1.20 kW, Ø 140 mm
- Front Left: 1.80 kW, Ø 180 mm
- Central: 2.00 kW, 150 x 250 mm (oval zone)
- Rear Right: 2.40 kW, Ø 210 mm
- Front Right: 1.20 kW, Ø 140 mm
4.2 Using the Control Knobs
- Identify the knob corresponding to the desired heating zone. The layout of the knobs typically mirrors the layout of the heating zones on the cooktop surface.
- Turn the knob clockwise to activate the heating zone and select a power level. The cooktop offers 6 power levels, ranging from 1 (low heat) to 6 (high heat).
- The selected heating zone will begin to glow red, indicating it is active and heating.
- To turn off a heating zone, turn its corresponding knob counter-clockwise back to the '0' position.
4.3 Residual Heat Indicator
After a heating zone is switched off, the residual heat indicator (usually an 'H' or a dot on the cooktop display, or a light near the knob) will remain illuminated. This indicates that the surface is still hot and caution should be exercised. The indicator will turn off once the surface has cooled to a safe temperature.
5. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your cooktop.
5.1 Daily Cleaning
- Always ensure the cooktop is cool before cleaning.
- Wipe the ceramic glass surface with a soft cloth or sponge and a mild detergent.
- For stubborn stains or burnt-on food, use a specialized ceramic hob cleaner.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean cloth to prevent water spots.
5.2 Using the Glass Scraper
A glass scraper is included with your cooktop for removing tough, burnt-on residues. Use it carefully at an angle to avoid scratching the surface. Always follow the scraper manufacturer's instructions.
5.3 Control Knobs
The control knobs can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse them in water.
6. Troubleshooting
Before contacting service, please check the following common issues:
- Cooktop does not turn on:
- Check if the appliance is properly connected to the power supply.
- Verify that the circuit breaker has not tripped.
- Heating zone not heating:
- Ensure the control knob for that zone is turned to a power level greater than '0'.
- Check if the overheat protection has been activated (the zone will cool down before reactivating).
- Residual heat indicator remains on:
- This is normal. The indicator will turn off once the surface has cooled sufficiently.
- Unusual noises during operation:
- Minor expansion and contraction noises are normal during heating and cooling.
If the problem persists after checking these points, disconnect the appliance from the power supply and contact a qualified service technician.
