Introduction
The CenturyLink C844G GigaCenter is an integrated access and gateway solution designed to deliver advanced network management and software features, enabling a high-speed internet experience throughout your home. This device terminates a GPON fiber optic link at your premises and provides carrier-class Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for various multimedia devices. It supports gigabit broadband data, Prism IP video, and VoIP or TDM based voice services over a single fiber connection.
Utilizing 802.11ac 5GHz technology with 4x4 multi-user multiple-input and multiple-output (MU-MIMO) and beamforming, the C844G GigaCenter extends the access network inside the home, establishing a strategic location for the delivery and control of broadband services. It also includes a USB port for home networking with other Ethernet appliances. The GigaCenter is engineered for optimal whole-home coverage with simultaneous dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz operation and dynamic beamforming at 5GHz, supporting high-power 2x2 MIMO spatial diversity at 2.4GHz and 4x4 MU-MIMO at 5GHz for maximum performance.

Setup and Installation
Before You Begin
- Ensure you have an active CenturyLink fiber optic service connection.
- Locate a central area in your home for optimal Wi-Fi coverage.
- Have your CenturyLink account information ready for activation.
Connecting the GigaCenter
- Connect the Fiber Optic Cable: Carefully connect the fiber optic cable from your wall outlet to the GPON port on the back of the GigaCenter. Ensure the connection is secure.
- Connect Power: Plug the power adapter into the DC IN port on the GigaCenter and then into a standard electrical outlet.
- Power On: The GigaCenter will automatically power on. Wait for the indicator lights on the front panel to stabilize. The Power, Broadband, and Wi-Fi lights should turn solid green.
- Optional: Connect Ethernet Devices: For wired connections, connect an Ethernet cable from one of the yellow Gigabit Ethernet (GE) ports on the GigaCenter to your computer, gaming console, or other network device.
- Optional: Connect Phone Lines: If you have voice services, connect your telephone to the green Phone 1 or Phone 2 ports.
Initial Activation
The CenturyLink C844G GigaCenter features a "Smart Activate" function for easy setup. A CenturyLink field technician can install and apply your service profile using a phone or laptop, without requiring special equipment or central office assistance.
If self-activating, follow the instructions provided by CenturyLink or access the modem's GUI via a connected device:
- Connect a computer or mobile device to the GigaCenter via Wi-Fi (using the SSID and password on the device label) or an Ethernet cable.
- Open a web browser and navigate to the GUI Address (e.g.,
192.168.0.1) found on the device label. - Enter the Admin Username and Admin Password from the device label to log in.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the activation process.
Operation
Indicator Lights
The front panel of the GigaCenter features several indicator lights that provide status information:
- Power: Solid Green indicates the device is powered on.
- Broadband (GPON): Solid Green indicates a successful fiber optic connection. Blinking indicates data activity.
- Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz): Solid Green indicates Wi-Fi is enabled. Blinking indicates data activity.
- Ethernet (GE1-GE4): Solid Green indicates a connected device. Blinking indicates data activity.
- Phone (Phone1/Phone2): Solid Green indicates active voice service. Blinking indicates call activity.
Connecting to Wi-Fi
The GigaCenter supports simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz). The default Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs) and passwords (Key/Passphrase) are printed on a label on the device (refer to Figure 2).
- On your wireless device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), open your Wi-Fi settings.
- Select the desired network name (SSID), e.g., "CenturyLink0041" for 2.4GHz or "CenturyLink0041-5G" for 5GHz.
- Enter the Key/Passphrase when prompted.
- Your device should now be connected to the internet.
Accessing the Web Interface (GUI)
You can manage your GigaCenter settings through its web-based graphical user interface (GUI).
- Ensure your device is connected to the GigaCenter's network (wired or wireless).
- Open a web browser and type the GUI Address (e.g.,
192.168.0.1) into the address bar and press Enter. - Enter the Admin Username (e.g.,
admin) and Admin Password (e.g.,sqw6Fsy6) found on the device label. - From the GUI, you can configure Wi-Fi settings, view connected devices, manage port forwarding, and more.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
- Ventilation: Ensure the GigaCenter is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation slots.
- Firmware Updates: Firmware updates are typically managed automatically by CenturyLink. Do not attempt manual firmware updates unless instructed by technical support.
- Restarting the Device: If you experience connectivity issues, try restarting the GigaCenter by unplugging the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in.
Troubleshooting
No Internet Connection
- Check Power: Ensure the Power light is solid green. If not, check the power connection.
- Check Broadband Light: Ensure the Broadband (GPON) light is solid green. If it's off or blinking, there might be an issue with your fiber optic connection. Contact CenturyLink support.
- Restart GigaCenter: Unplug the power cord, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow a few minutes for the device to restart and reconnect.
- Check Cables: Ensure all Ethernet and fiber optic cables are securely connected.
Wi-Fi Connectivity Issues
- Check Wi-Fi Light: Ensure the Wi-Fi light is solid green.
- Verify Password: Double-check that you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password (Key/Passphrase) from the device label.
- Signal Strength: Move closer to the GigaCenter to improve signal strength. Obstacles like walls and large appliances can interfere with Wi-Fi signals.
- Restart Device: Restart both the GigaCenter and your wireless device.
- Change Wi-Fi Channel: If you suspect interference, you can try changing the Wi-Fi channel through the GigaCenter's web interface (advanced users).
Slow Internet Speed
- Wired vs. Wireless: Test speed with a wired Ethernet connection to determine if the issue is with the Wi-Fi or the internet service itself.
- Number of Devices: Too many devices actively using the network can slow down speeds.
- Interference: Other electronic devices (cordless phones, microwaves) can interfere with Wi-Fi signals.
- Service Plan: Verify your internet service plan with CenturyLink to ensure it meets your speed expectations.
