Dual-Band Wi-Fi AC1200

The AC12G router operates on two distinct Wi-Fi bands, providing flexibility and performance:

Figure 5.2: Visual representation of the AC12G's dual-band capabilities, indicating speeds of up to 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band (ideal for HD streaming and gaming) and up to 400 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band (suitable for general browsing and wider coverage).

  • 2.4 GHz Band: Offers speeds up to 300 Mbps. This band provides wider coverage and better penetration through walls, suitable for general internet use, web browsing, and connecting older devices.
  • 5 GHz Band: Offers speeds up to 867 Mbps. This band is less prone to interference and provides faster speeds, ideal for bandwidth-intensive activities like online gaming and 4K video streaming.

Guest Network

You can create a separate Wi-Fi network for guests to ensure the security of your main network. This feature allows guests to access the internet without gaining access to your private network resources.

  • Access the web management page (mwlogin.net).
  • Navigate to the Guest Network settings to enable and configure a separate SSID and password for your guests.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure optimal performance and longevity of your router.

  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the MERCUSYS official website for the latest firmware updates. Updating firmware can improve performance, add new features, and fix bugs.
  • Regular Reboot: Rebooting your router every few weeks can help clear its memory and resolve minor performance issues. Simply unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.
  • Optimal Placement: Place the router in a central location, away from obstructions and devices that emit strong electromagnetic interference (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones). This helps maximize Wi-Fi coverage.

Figure 6.1: A guide illustrating recommended router specifications based on area size and usage intensity. For example, a 2 BHK or up to 1000 sqft area with up to 10 devices is suitable for regular usage like audio/video streaming, mobile gaming, work from home, casual browsing, and smart devices. A 1 BHK or up to 500 sqft area with up to 5 devices is suitable for heavy usage including HD video streaming, gaming, and connected smart home devices.

  • Physical Cleaning: Keep the router clean and free from dust buildup, which can affect ventilation and performance.
