Product Overview

The EZDIY-FAB M.2 NVMe PCIe Adapter is designed to provide a high-speed storage solution for desktop computers. It converts an M.2 NVMe SSD into a standard PCIe x16 expansion card, allowing it to be installed in a compatible PCIe slot on your motherboard. The included heatsink helps maintain optimal SSD performance by dissipating heat, preventing thermal throttling during intensive operations.

Compatibility

This adapter supports M.2 NVMe (PCIe-based) SSDs with an M-Key connector. It is compatible with M.2 SSD sizes 2230, 2242, 2260, and 2280. The adapter is designed for PCI Express x16 slots and is backward compatible with PCIe 4.0, 3.0, and 2.0 standards.

Important: This adapter does NOT support M.2 SATA SSDs (B-Key or B+M Key).

Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your M.2 NVMe SSD onto the adapter and then into your desktop PC:

  1. Prepare the M.2 SSD:
    • Identify the correct standoff position on the adapter card for your M.2 SSD size (2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280).
    • Carefully insert the M.2 SSD into the M-Key slot on the adapter card at a slight angle.
    • Gently push down the SSD and secure it with the provided screw into the standoff.
  2. Install the Heatsink:
    • Remove the protective films from both sides of the thermal pads.
    • Place one thermal pad onto the M.2 SSD chip side.
    • Place the aluminum heatsink on top of the thermal pad, ensuring good contact with the SSD.
    • Use the included rubber bands or clips (if provided) to secure the heatsink firmly to the SSD and adapter.

  3. Install the Adapter into PC:
    • With your PC powered off and unplugged, open the computer case.
    • Locate an available PCI Express x16 slot on your motherboard. While it fits in an x16 slot, it operates at x4 speed.
    • Remove the corresponding expansion slot cover from the PC case.
    • Carefully align the adapter card with the PCIe slot and press it firmly until it is fully seated.
    • Secure the adapter card to the PC case with the screw from the expansion slot cover.
    • Close the computer case, plug in the power, and power on your PC.

Operating Instructions

The EZDIY-FAB M.2 NVMe PCIe Adapter is designed for driver-free operation on most modern operating systems, including Windows XP, 7, 8, 10, and 11. Once installed, your system's BIOS/UEFI should recognize the M.2 NVMe SSD connected via the adapter.

  • Initial Setup: For a new SSD, you may need to initialize and format the drive in Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS/Linux) before it appears as usable storage.
  • Boot Drive: If you intend to use the NVMe SSD as a boot drive, ensure your motherboard's BIOS/UEFI supports booting from PCIe NVMe devices and configure the boot order accordingly.

Maintenance
