5. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to install and set up your wireless backup camera:

5.1 Step 1: Install the Camera

Mount the camera, which is integrated into a license plate frame, onto your vehicle's rear license plate. Ensure the camera lens is unobstructed and positioned for optimal viewing. The camera is designed to fit US standard license plates.

5.2 Step 2: Power Connection

Connect the power wire of the backup camera to a 12-36V DC power source. This can typically be done by connecting to your vehicle's running lights, reversing lights, or an auxiliary charging circuit. When the connected light/power source is active, the camera will power on.

  • Option 1 (Running Lights): Connect the camera's power wire to your vehicle's running lights. This will power the camera whenever your running lights are on.
  • Option 2 (Reversing Lights): Connect the camera's power wire to your vehicle's reversing lights. This will power the camera only when the vehicle is in reverse.
  • Option 3 (12-36V DC Jack): Use a cigarette lighter adapter to connect to a 12-36V DC socket for power.

5.3 Step 3: App Installation

Download and install the recommended application, "MH Cam," on your smartphone or tablet. The app is available on both the Apple App Store for iOS devices and Google Play Store for Android devices.

5.4 Step 4: Connect to Camera WiFi

Once the camera is powered on, it will create its own WiFi signal (e.g., "SONIX_XXXXXX"). Go to your mobile device's WiFi settings and connect to this network. Note: This WiFi network does not provide internet access.

5.5 Step 5: Open the App

Launch the "MH Cam" application on your mobile device. The app will automatically connect to the camera's WiFi signal and display the live video feed.

6. Operating the Camera

6.1 Viewing the Live Feed

After completing the setup, open the "MH Cam" app to view the real-time video feed from the backup camera. The app displays images at 25 frames per second, ensuring a smooth and responsive view.

6.2 App Features

The "MH Cam" app provides several functions:

  • Guide Lines: Adjustable parking guide lines are displayed on the screen to assist with parking and reversing.
  • Mirror/Normal View: Toggle between mirror image and normal image display modes.
  • Screenshot: Capture still images from the live video feed.
  • Storage: Access saved screenshots or video recordings (if available).
  • Settings: Adjust various camera and app parameters.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the camera lens with a soft, damp cloth to ensure a clear view. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Connection Check: Periodically inspect the power cable and connections for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure they remain secure.
  • Software Updates: Check the App Store or Google Play Store for updates to the "MH Cam" app to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1 No Image or Connection Issues

  • Check Power: Ensure the camera is receiving power from the vehicle's electrical system (e.g., running lights, reversing lights, or DC jack). Verify the power source is active.
  • WiFi Connection: Confirm your mobile device is connected to the camera's specific WiFi network (e.g., "SONIX_XXXXXX") and not your home or cellular network.
  • 2.4 GHz Support: Verify that your mobile device supports 2.4 GHz WiFi. The camera operates exclusively on this frequency.
  • App Status: Close and reopen the "MH Cam" app. If issues persist, try reinstalling the app.
  • Vehicle Interference: Some vehicle electrical systems may cause interference. Ensure wiring is properly shielded and connections are solid.

8.2 Dark or Unclear Image

  • Clean Lens: Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from dirt, dust, or moisture.
  • Lighting Conditions: While the camera has night vision, extreme darkness may still limit visibility. Ensure adequate ambient light if possible.

8.3 Intermittent Connection or Freezing

  • Power Stability: An unstable power supply can cause intermittent connection. Ensure the power source is consistent.
  • App Performance: Ensure your mobile device has sufficient resources (RAM, storage) for the app to run smoothly.
