5. Operating Instructions (Training Guide)

This agility set is designed to help your dog get daily exercise and improve their agility skills. Remember to keep training sessions positive and rewarding.

5.1 General Training Principles

  • Positive Reinforcement: Use treats, praise, and toys to reward your dog for successful attempts.
  • Short Sessions: Keep training sessions brief (5-15 minutes) to maintain your dog's interest and prevent fatigue.
  • Consistency: Practice regularly to reinforce learned behaviors.
  • Start Simple: Begin with low heights and wide spacing, gradually increasing difficulty as your dog gains confidence.

5.2 Hurdle Training

  1. Set the hurdle to its lowest height.
  2. Lure your dog over the bar with a treat or toy, walking alongside them.
  3. Once your dog consistently jumps over, introduce a verbal command like "Jump!" or "Over!".
  4. Gradually increase the height of the bar as your dog becomes proficient.

5.3 Jumping Hoop Training

  1. Position the hoop at a low, easily accessible height.
  2. Guide your dog through the hoop with a treat, initially holding the treat on the other side.
  3. Introduce a command like "Through!" or "Hoop!" as they pass through.
  4. Increase the hoop's height as your dog masters the exercise.

5.4 Weave Pole Training

  1. Start with the poles spaced wider apart if your dog is new to weaving.
  2. Guide your dog through the poles in an S-pattern using a treat or your hand.
  3. Use a command like "Weave!" as they navigate the poles.
  4. As your dog improves, gradually decrease the spacing between the poles.

6. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe use of your agility equipment.

  • Cleaning: The equipment is hand washable. Use mild soap and water to clean any dirt or debris. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before storage.
  • Storage: After use, especially outdoors, disassemble the equipment and store it in the provided carry bag. Store in a dry, protected area to prevent damage from weather elements.
  • Inspection: Periodically check all pipes, joints, and straps for cracks, breaks, or loose connections. Replace any damaged parts immediately.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with the agility set.

  • Equipment is unstable or falls over easily: The equipment is lightweight for portability and safety. For increased stability, especially on uneven ground or with larger, more energetic dogs, you may consider filling the hollow pipes with play sand. Ensure caps are securely in place after filling.
  • Weave poles come apart easily: Ensure all pipe connections are pushed firmly into the joints during assembly. If moving the assembled weave poles, handle them carefully to prevent separation.
  • Dog is not engaging with the equipment: Ensure training sessions are short, positive, and use high-value rewards. Re-evaluate the difficulty level; it might be too challenging. Consult a professional dog trainer if difficulties persist.
