INNOVA 6100P OBD2 Scanner Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The INNOVA 6100P diagnostic tool is designed to assist vehicle owners and technicians with vehicle maintenance and repair. This code reader is compatible with all 1996 and newer OBD2 compliant cars, light trucks, SUVs, hybrids, and minivans. It provides comprehensive diagnostic capabilities including reading and erasing trouble codes for the engine, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), and transmission. Additionally, it offers oil reset procedures, battery and alternator testing, and live data monitoring for efficient vehicle health assessment.

2. What's in the Box

Upon opening the package, ensure all the following items are present:

• 1x 6100P Code Reader with Diagnostic Cable
• 1x Quick Start Guide

3. Setup

1. Connect the Diagnostic Cable: Attach the diagnostic cable to the top port of the INNOVA 6100P unit. Ensure it is securely fastened.
2. Locate the Vehicle's OBD2 Port: The OBD2 port is typically located under the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for the exact location if needed.
3. Connect to Vehicle: Plug the diagnostic cable's OBD2 connector into your vehicle's OBD2 port. The connector may illuminate to indicate a successful connection.
4. Power On the Vehicle: Turn the ignition key to the 'ON' position without starting the engine. The code reader will automatically link to the vehicle's computer.
5. Battery Installation: The device requires 3 AAA batteries. Ensure they are correctly installed in the battery compartment located on the back of the unit.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Navigating the Menu

The INNOVA 6100P features a user-friendly interface with dedicated buttons for various functions. Use the directional buttons (up, down, left, right) to navigate through menu options and the 'M' (Menu) button to access the main menu. The 'Enter' button (center) confirms selections, and the 'Back' button (left arrow) returns to the previous screen.

4.2. Reading and Erasing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

The 6100P can read and clear engine, ABS, SRS, and transmission codes. After connecting the device and powering on the vehicle, the scanner will automatically link and display any stored DTCs.

1. From the System Menu, select the desired system (e.g., Global OBD2, ABS, SRS, OEM Enhanced).
2. The scanner will display any stored or pending DTCs.
3. To erase codes, press the ERASE button. Confirm your selection when prompted. Ensure the engine is off and the ignition is in the 'ON' position before erasing codes.

4.3. Live Data Monitoring

View essential powertrain information in real-time for efficient diagnosis and enhanced parameter analysis. This includes RPM, speed, oil temperature, and more. The data logging functionality allows you to record live data for later review or sharing.

4.4. Battery & Alternator Test

This feature allows you to check the performance of your vehicle's charging system, including the battery and alternator. This is particularly useful for diagnosing starting issues.

4.5. Oil Reset

The Oil Reset feature provides step-by-step procedures for resetting the oil change light, mileage, or driving time for most 1996 and newer OBD2 vehicles. It also monitors oil level and oil life status.

4.6. Drive Cycle Procedures

This function helps determine if your vehicle will pass a state vehicle smog test by offering trip cycle procedures to complete the smog check effectively.

4.7. Full OBD2 Modes

The device supports all 10 OBD2 modes, offering comprehensive functions from live data stream to drive cycle procedures, freeze frame data, I/M readiness, EVAP test, DTC lookup, and vehicle information.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your INNOVA 6100P, follow these maintenance guidelines:

• Screen Care: The device's screen comes with a tightly-fitting screen protector. If any scratches appear, carefully peel off the screen protector from a corner.
• Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Storage: Store the scanner in its protective pouch in a cool, dry place when not in use.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your INNOVA 6100P, consider the following:

• No Powertrain DTCs or Freeze Frame Data: If the device indicates no powertrain DTCs or freeze frame data, it means no such data is currently stored in the vehicle's computer.
