2. Safety Information

  • Always inspect straps for wear or damage before each use. Do not use if damaged.
  • Ensure trees or anchor points are healthy and strong enough to support the hammock's load.
  • Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity of 400 lbs (181 kg).
  • Hang hammocks at a safe height, typically no more than 18 inches (45 cm) off the ground.
  • Avoid hanging over sharp objects, rocks, or water.
  • Ensure the straps are wrapped around the tree trunk and not around branches that could break.
  • Hammock and carabiners are sold separately. Ensure compatible and appropriately rated carabiners are used.

3. Setup Instructions

  1. Select Anchor Points: Choose two healthy, sturdy trees or posts that are approximately 10-15 feet (3-4.5 meters) apart. Ensure the anchor points are free of sharp edges or obstructions that could damage the straps.
  2. Wrap Strap Around Tree: Take one Atlas XL strap and wrap it around the tree trunk at your desired hanging height. Pass the end of the strap with the loops through the larger loop at the other end of the strap, creating a girth hitch around the tree. Pull it snug.

  3. Repeat for Second Tree: Perform the same wrapping procedure for the second Atlas XL strap on the other tree.
  4. Attach Hammock: Using compatible carabiners (sold separately), attach each end of your hammock to one of the loops on the Atlas XL straps. The straps feature 40 combined attachment points, allowing for fine-tuning of hammock tension and height.

  5. Adjust Tension: Adjust the hammock's sag and height by moving the carabiners to different loops on the straps. A good starting point is to have the hammock hang in a gentle curve, with the lowest point about 18 inches (45 cm) from the ground when seated.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Hand wash straps with mild soap and cold water. Do not use bleach or harsh detergents.
  • Drying: Air dry thoroughly. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use. Ensure straps are completely dry before storing in the included stuff sack to prevent mildew.

  • Inspection: Regularly inspect straps for any signs of fraying, cuts, or damage to the stitching. Discontinue use if any damage is found.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Hammock too low/high: Adjust the carabiners to a higher or lower loop on the Atlas XL straps until the desired height and sag are achieved.
  • Straps slipping: Ensure the straps are wrapped tightly around the tree trunk and the girth hitch is secure. The tree surface should be relatively smooth and free of loose bark.
  • Difficulty finding suitable trees: The Atlas XL straps are 4.11 meters (13.5 feet) long, providing flexibility for wider tree spans. If trees are too far apart, consider a different hanging location.
