Setup and Installation

  1. Placement: Plug the Jasco 45852 Smart Dimmer into a standard 120V AC wall outlet. Ensure it is placed within range of your Zigbee gateway or another Zigbee device to ensure proper network connectivity. The compact design allows it to fit behind furniture and leave the second outlet free.
  2. Connect Device: Plug the dimmable light fixture you wish to control into the polarized smart outlet of the dimmer. The other grounded outlet provides continuous power and is not dimmable.
  3. Pairing with a Zigbee Gateway:
    • Follow the instructions provided by your specific Zigbee gateway (e.g., Amazon Echo Plus, SmartThings, Wink) to add a new device.
    • Typically, this involves putting your gateway into "discovery" or "pairing" mode.
    • Once your gateway is in pairing mode, press the manual On/Off & Program button on the Jasco Smart Dimmer. The LED indicator on the dimmer will flash to indicate pairing mode and then turn solid when successfully paired.
    • Note: When pairing with SmartThings, it may be recognized as a "GE" device.
  4. Testing: After successful pairing, test the dimmer by using your gateway's app or voice commands (if applicable) to turn the connected light on/off and adjust its brightness.

The Jasco 45852 Smart Dimmer is compatible with Amazon Alexa devices when connected through a certified hub, or directly with Echo Plus and Echo Show (2nd gen). It is not compatible with Philips Hue (Zigbee Light Link – ZLL).

Operating Instructions

Manual Control

The manual On/Off & Program button on the front of the dimmer allows for direct control of the connected light.

Remote Control via Zigbee Gateway

Once paired with your Zigbee gateway, you can control the dimmer wirelessly using your gateway's mobile application, computer interface, or voice commands (if supported by your gateway and voice assistant).

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
Light does not turn on or dim.
  • Ensure the dimmer is securely plugged into a working outlet.
  • Verify the connected light bulb is functional and properly screwed in.
  • Check if the dimmer is properly paired with your Zigbee gateway. Re-pair if necessary.
  • Confirm the light bulb is dimmable. Non-dimmable bulbs may not function correctly or at all.
  • For low-draw LED bulbs, try setting the dimmer to a higher percentage (e.g., 70%) if the bulb doesn't turn on at 100%. Some low-wattage bulbs require a minimum load to activate.
LED lights blink or glow dimly when off.
  • This can be caused by residual voltage (voltage leakage) common with some LED bulbs and dimmers. Try using a different brand or type of dimmable LED bulb.
  • Ensure the dimmer is compatible with your specific LED bulb type.
Dimmer cannot pair with gateway.
  • Ensure your gateway is in pairing/discovery mode.
  • Confirm the dimmer is within range of the gateway or another Zigbee device acting as a repeater.
  • Verify your gateway is Zigbee-certified and compatible with the Jasco 45852. (Note: Not compatible with Philips Hue ZLL).
  • Try resetting the dimmer to factory settings (refer to your gateway's instructions or Jasco support for specific reset procedures if the manual button doesn't work).
Remote control is unresponsive.
  • Check the Zigbee network status on your gateway.
  • Ensure the dimmer is still connected to the network.
  • Verify your mobile device or computer has an active internet connection if controlling remotely.
  • The wireless range is up to 150ft from the controller or closest Zigbee device. Obstacles can reduce this range.
