Important Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating power equipment. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including ANSI standard hand and eye protection.
  • Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders, especially children and pets.
  • Operate the auger only on dirt surfaces. Do not use for rock, stone, or metal surfaces/debris.
  • Familiarize yourself with all controls and safety features before starting the engine.

2. Setup

Assembly

The Landworks Earth Auger is designed for straightforward assembly. Ensure all components are securely fastened before use.

  • Attach the auger bit to the power head using the Push Bolt and R-Pin Clip design. This ensures the auger is securely locked in place, eliminating any looseness or play in the connection.
  • Ensure the ergonomic handles are firmly attached, providing wide-spaced sure-grip for increased stability and balance.

Fuel and Oil Mixture

This 2-stroke gas engine requires a specific fuel mixture for optimal performance and longevity.

  • The fuel type for this auger is a 30:1 ratio of Gasoline & Oil.
  • Use 90-93 Octane Gasoline with 10% or less Ethanol.
  • Use 2-stroke JASO-M345/JASO-FC/FD oil. Alternatively, a 50:1 pre-mix/pre-blend fuel can be used.
  • The maximum fuel tank capacity is 1 Liter.
  • Always mix fuel in a separate, approved fuel mixing canister before adding it to the auger's tank.

3. Operating Instructions

Starting the Engine

  1. Ensure the ON/OFF switch on the handle is in the 'ON' position (or off the 'STOP' position).
  2. Prime the engine if necessary (refer to specific engine priming instructions if available on the unit).
  3. Hold the unit firmly by the handles.
  4. Pull the starter cord until the engine starts. The engine should rumble at idle.
  5. Squeeze the throttle lever to engage the auger bit and begin drilling.

Drilling Operation

The Landworks Earth Auger is ideal for various garden and lawn applications, including digging post holes, dirt removal, soil cultivation, and planting.

  • Position the auger bit over the desired drilling location. The included fishtail design aids in precise centering.
  • Gradually apply throttle and allow the auger to penetrate the soil. For dense or clay soil, lower the auger slowly to prevent it from getting wedged.
  • The powerful 3Hp 52cc Gas 2 Stroke Single Cylinder OHV Engine provides excellent power to torque ratio performance, with a Max Rotating Power of 7000RPMs and a Max Output Power of 235RPMs at a 30:1 reduction gear ratio.
  • The auger is capable of digging deep holes, with bits available up to 30 inches in length.

5. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Landworks Earth Auger.

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Engine does not start or is difficult to start.Incorrect fuel mixture, old fuel, clogged fuel filter, spark plug issue, ON/OFF switch in 'STOP' position.Ensure correct 30:1 fuel mixture. Use fresh fuel. Check and clean/replace fuel filter. Inspect and clean/replace spark plug. Verify ON/OFF switch is in 'ON' position.
Auger bit gets stuck or jams.Hitting rocks, roots, or dense clay; attempting to drill too fast.Do not use on rock or metal surfaces. Lower the auger slowly, especially in challenging soil. Clear obstructions if safe to do so.
Throttle sticks or is unresponsive.Debris in throttle mechanism, cable issue.Inspect throttle lever and cable for obstructions or damage. Clean as necessary. If issue persists, seek professional service.
Overheating.Prolonged heavy use, insufficient cooling.Allow the unit to cool down. Ensure cooling fins are clear of debris. The transmission overload protector should prevent severe overheating.
