2. Safety Information

Always read and understand all instructions before using this product. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Electrical Rating: Ensure the total wattage of connected devices does not exceed 1875W (15A at 125VAC). The integrated circuit breaker protects against overload.
  • Grounding: This product features a 3-prong grounded plug. Always connect to a properly grounded outlet. Do not remove the grounding prong.
  • Environmental Use: The SJTOW cable is resistant to acids, alkalies, ozone, and kinking, and is operable in temperatures from -58°F to 221°F (-50°C to 105°C). However, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme conditions beyond these limits.
  • Cable Management: Always fully extend the cord when using high-wattage appliances to prevent overheating. Do not yank the cord during retraction; allow the Slow Retraction Technology (SRT) to operate smoothly.
  • Inspection: Before each use, inspect the cord and reel for any damage, cuts, or exposed wires. Do not use if damaged.
  • Children and Pets: Keep the cord reel and extension cord out of reach of children and pets.

4. Setup and Installation

The ReelWorks cord reel can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. Ensure the mounting surface is sturdy enough to support the weight of the reel and the forces applied during use.

4.1 Mounting Location

Choose a location that provides optimal reach for your work area and allows for the full 180-degree swivel motion without obstruction. Consider mounting on a ceiling joist or a sturdy wall stud.

4.2 Installation Steps (Ceiling Mount Example)

  1. Prepare Mounting Bracket: The reel comes with a mounting bracket. You may need to attach it to the reel if not pre-assembled.
  2. Create Template: Draw a template of the mounting bracket's hole pattern on a piece of paper.
  3. Position Template: Tape the template to the desired ceiling truss or joist.
  4. Drill Pilot Holes: Drill pilot holes according to the template. For the two main mounting bolts (supplied), drill through. For the center hole, drill approximately 1.25 inches deep.
  5. Install Bolts: Insert the two long carriage bolts (supplied) into the main holes, leaving them slightly loose. A 1.5-inch carriage bolt (not included) may be needed for the center hole.
  6. Hoist Reel: Tie a rope to the mounting bracket on the reel and run it over the ceiling joist. Hoist the entire reel into place and secure it temporarily with the rope.
  7. Attach Reel: Climb a ladder and slide the reel's mounting bracket onto the two installed carriage bolts. Install the shorter bolt into the center hole.
  8. Tighten: Securely tighten all mounting bolts.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Extending the Cord

Grasp the triple tap connector and slowly pull the cord out to the desired length. You will hear clicks as the internal ratchet mechanism engages. To lock the cord at a specific length, pull it slightly past the desired point, then allow it to retract slowly until the ratchet locks.

5.2 Retracting the Cord

To retract the cord, gently pull the cord out a short distance until the ratchet mechanism disengages. Then, guide the cord back into the reel, allowing the Slow Retraction Technology (SRT) to smoothly rewind the cable. Do not release the cord abruptly, as this can cause damage or injury.

6. Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Keep the cord and reel housing clean from dust, dirt, and debris. Use a damp cloth for cleaning; ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.
  • Cord Inspection: Periodically check the entire length of the cord for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Pay close attention to the areas near the reel entry point and the triple tap connector.
  • Circuit Breaker Test: The integrated circuit breaker is designed to trip in case of an overload. If it trips, unplug all devices, reset the breaker, and reduce the load before reconnecting.
  • Storage: When not in use, ensure the cord is fully retracted and stored in a dry, protected area.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Cord does not retractRatcheting mechanism is locked; internal spring issue.Pull the cord out slightly to disengage the lock, then guide it back. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
