Setup and Installation
Proper placement and installation are crucial for the effective operation of your smoke detector. Follow these steps carefully:
1. Choosing a Location
- Install smoke detectors in every sleeping room and on every level of your home, including the basement.
- For best protection, install a smoke detector in the hallway outside of each separate sleeping area.
- Avoid installing in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, or near heating vents, as these areas can cause false alarms.
- Mount the detector on the ceiling in the center of a room or hallway. If ceiling mounting is not possible, mount it on a wall between 4 and 12 inches (10 and 30 cm) from the ceiling.
- Ensure the detector is at least 20 inches (50 cm) away from corners.

| Flashes rapidly with alarm sound | Smoke detected / Test mode |
| Flashes once every 10 seconds | Silence mode active |
| Flashes once every 10 seconds with a chirp | Low battery warning (replace unit) |
| Flashes once every 40 seconds with a chirp | Malfunction warning (refer to troubleshooting) |
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures your smoke detector remains in optimal working condition.
- Monthly: Test the detector using the Test/Silence button.
- Annually: Vacuum the detector cover with a soft brush attachment to remove any dust or debris. Do not paint the detector.
