The Tanita Cooking Thermometer TT-583 GR is a precision instrument designed for accurate temperature measurement in various culinary applications. Its waterproof design and extended sensor allow for safe and convenient use, ensuring optimal cooking results. 2. Product Overview

The TT-583 GR features a long sensor probe, a clear digital display, and a convenient sensor holder that doubles as a handle. It also includes a magnet for easy storage.

2.1 Components and Functions

  1. Hook Hole: Insert the tip of the sensor holder into this hole. This allows for measurement while keeping your hand further away from heat sources.
  2. HOLD Button: Press this button during temperature measurement to freeze the displayed temperature value for easier reading and confirmation.
  3. ON/OFF Button: Press to power the device on or off. The thermometer features an auto power-off function that activates after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity, or if the ambient temperature is below 45°C and the temperature change is less than 3°C.
  4. Display Area: The digital screen shows the temperature readings. It is designed for clear readability whether held in the left or right hand.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The Tanita TT-583 GR uses one CR2032 coin cell battery. A trial battery is included with your purchase.

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the thermometer unit.
  2. Use a small coin or screwdriver to open the battery compartment.
  3. Insert the CR2032 battery with the positive (+) side facing up.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it.

Ensure the battery is correctly installed for proper device function.

4. Operation

4.1 Basic Temperature Measurement

  1. Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the thermometer.
  2. Insert the stainless steel sensor probe into the food or liquid you wish to measure. The sensor is 14 cm long, allowing for deep insertion and safe distance from heat.
  3. Read the temperature displayed on the digital screen. The display updates every 1 second.
  4. To turn off the thermometer, press the ON/OFF button again. The device will also automatically power off after approximately 10 minutes of inactivity.

4.2 Using the HOLD Function

The HOLD function allows you to freeze the current temperature reading on the display.

  1. While measuring temperature, press the HOLD button. The current temperature will remain on the display.
  2. To resume live temperature measurement, press the HOLD button again.

4.3 Sensor Holder Usage

The included sensor holder can be used to extend your reach and protect your hands from heat.

  1. Insert the tip of the thermometer's sensor holder into the hook hole located on the main unit.
  2. This configuration allows you to hold the thermometer further away from hot surfaces or liquids during measurement.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

The Tanita TT-583 GR has an IPX2 waterproof rating, meaning it is protected against dripping water. To clean the thermometer:

  • Wipe the sensor probe and main unit with a damp cloth.
  • Do not immerse the entire unit in water or wash it under running water, as this may damage internal components.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.

5.2 Storage

For convenient and space-saving storage, the thermometer features a built-in magnet.

  • Attach the thermometer to a metallic surface, such as a refrigerator door or oven hood.
  • Store the sensor holder with the thermometer when not in use.

5.3 Battery Replacement

When the display becomes dim or the thermometer stops functioning, replace the CR2032 battery following the instructions in Section 3.1.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Display / Dim Display: Check battery installation. Replace the CR2032 battery if necessary.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the sensor probe is fully inserted into the substance being measured. Avoid measuring near strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Thermometer Does Not Turn On: Verify battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge.
