Setup
- Power Connection: Connect the supplied power cord to the amplifier's power input and then to a grounded AC outlet.
- Speaker Connection: Connect your bass speaker cabinet(s) to the "Speaker Output" jacks on the rear panel. Ensure the total impedance of your cabinets is 2 ohms or higher. Use high-quality speaker cables.
- Instrument Connection: Plug your bass guitar into the "Input" jack on the front panel. Select "Passive" or "Active" based on your bass's pickups.
- Optional Connections:
- For effects pedals, connect them to the "Send" and "Return" jacks.
- For direct recording or PA system connection, use the "DI Output" XLR jack. Adjust the "Pre/Post" switch as needed.
- For silent practice, connect headphones to the "Headphones" jack.
- To play along with music, connect an audio device to the "Aux In" jack.
- To manage IRs or update firmware, connect a USB-C cable to the "USB" port and your computer.
- Power On: Ensure all connections are secure, then flip the "Power Switch" on the rear panel to the ON position.
Operating Instructions
Basic Operation
- Start with the "Master" volume knob at a low setting.
- Adjust the "Comp" knob to control the amount of compression. Higher settings provide more sustain and a more even dynamic response.
- Use the "Graphic EQ" sliders to shape your tone. Experiment with different frequencies to find your desired sound.
- Gradually increase the "Master" volume to your desired listening level.
Using the Microtubes Engine
The Microtubes Engine provides two distinct distortion modes:
- VMT (Vintage Microtubes): Engages a warm, organic overdrive reminiscent of classic tube amplifiers. Ideal for vintage rock and blues tones.
- B3K (B3K Microtubes): Engages a more aggressive, modern distortion with enhanced clarity and punch. Suitable for heavier genres.
To activate the Microtubes Engine, press the "Microtubes Engine" switch. Select your desired character using the "VMT" or "B3K" switches. Use the "Drive" knob to control the amount of distortion, "Tone" to adjust its character, and "Blend" to mix the distorted signal with your clean signal. The "Level" knob controls the output volume of the Microtubes Engine.
Cabinet Simulation (IRs)
The MicroTubes 500 V2 includes three onboard Impulse Response (IR) cabinet simulations. These can be accessed via the "DI Output" and "Headphones" output. Use the "Cab Select" switch on the rear panel to cycle through the available IRs. Additional IRs can be loaded and managed using the Darkglass Suite software via the USB connection.
