4.2 Programming the Remote Control (Learning Mode)
This remote control learns functions from your original device remote. Ensure your original remote has working batteries and is functioning correctly before proceeding. The remote needs to be set up after installing the battery.
- Preparation: Place the Sonew Bamfive remote and your original remote on a flat surface, pointing their infrared emitters directly at each other. Maintain a distance of approximately 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) between them.
- Enter Learning Mode: Press and hold both the POWER button and the CHANNEL UP (CH+) button on the Sonew Bamfive remote simultaneously. Continue holding until the red LED indicator light at the top of the remote begins to blink rapidly. This indicates the remote is in learning mode.
- Select Button to Program: Briefly press the button on the Sonew Bamfive remote that you wish to program (e.g., VOLUME UP (VOL+)). The LED will turn on steadily and stop blinking, awaiting the signal from your original remote.
- Transmit Signal: Press and hold the corresponding function button on your original remote (e.g., Volume Up). Keep holding it until the LED on the Sonew Bamfive remote starts blinking rapidly again. This confirms that the function has been successfully learned, and the remote has returned to learning mode.
- Repeat for All Buttons: Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all other buttons you wish to program on the Sonew Bamfive remote (Power, Channel Up, Channel Down, Volume Up, Volume Down, AV).
- Exit Learning Mode: Once all desired buttons are programmed, simply leave the Sonew Bamfive remote untouched. It will automatically exit learning mode and turn off its LED after approximately 15 seconds. The programmed functions will be saved.
Note: If the learning process fails for a button, the LED may not blink rapidly. Repeat the steps for that specific button, ensuring proper alignment and distance between the remotes, and that the original remote's battery is strong.
5. Operating the Remote Control
After successful programming, the Sonew Bamfive remote is ready for use. Point the remote directly at your device (TV, STB, DVD, etc.) and press the desired button.

- AV: Switches between input sources (e.g., TV, HDMI 1, HDMI 2).
6. Maintenance
6.1 Battery Replacement
When the remote control's performance degrades or the LED indicator does not light up, it is time to replace the batteries. Follow the battery installation steps in Section 4.1. Always replace both AAA batteries simultaneously with new ones.
6.2 Cleaning
To clean the remote control, use a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or immerse the remote in water.
7. Troubleshooting
- Remote not responding:
- Check if the batteries are correctly installed and have sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
- Ensure there is a clear line of sight between the remote's infrared emitter and the device's receiver.
- Verify that the remote was programmed correctly for the specific device. Repeat programming if unsure.
- Learning function not working:
- Ensure the original remote's batteries are strong and it is functioning properly.
- Maintain the correct distance (1-2 inches) and direct alignment between the two remotes during programming.
- Ensure you are holding the button on the original remote long enough for the Sonew remote to learn the signal.
- Remote does not work with certain devices (e.g., cable boxes):
- While universal, some devices, particularly certain cable boxes, may use proprietary or complex signal patterns that this learning remote may not fully replicate.
