4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Pre-Installation Checklist
- Ensure you have a compatible Digital Video Recorder (DVR) for video recording and viewing.
- A DC 12V power adapter (not included) is required to power the camera.
- Video cables (BNC) are needed to connect the camera to the DVR.
- Select a mounting location that provides the desired field of view and is protected from direct weather exposure if outdoors (e.g., under an overhang).
4.2 Mounting the Camera
- Choose a suitable ceiling or wall location for mounting. Ensure the surface is strong enough to support the camera.
- Use the camera base as a template to mark the drilling points for the mounting screws.
- Drill pilot holes and insert the wall plugs if mounting into drywall or masonry.
- Secure the camera base to the mounting surface using the provided screws.
- Important: Do not remove the protective layer on the camera dome until installation is complete to prevent scratches or dust accumulation.
- Placement Tip: Avoid installing the camera too close to a wall or large object, as this can reflect infrared light and negatively impact night vision clarity.
4.3 Connecting the Camera
Connect the camera to your DVR system as follows:
- Connect the camera's BNC video output cable to a video input port on your DVR.
- Connect the DC 12V power adapter (not included) to the camera's power input port.
- Ensure all connections are secure before powering on the DVR and camera.

Figure 4.1: Connection Diagram. This image illustrates how to connect the camera to a DVR and monitor, showing the power access point and the DVR's video input ports.
4.4 Initial Configuration: Changing Video Output Mode
The camera's default video mode is Analog (CVBS 960H), which provides a lower resolution (1200TVL). To achieve the full 5MP High Definition resolution, you must change the camera's working mode to match your DVR's input type (TVI, AHD, or CVI). This is done using the joystick cable integrated with the camera's video output cable.
- Connect the camera to your DVR and monitor.
- Locate the small joystick on the camera's cable.
- To access the OSD (On-Screen Display) menu: Press the middle of the joystick.
- Navigate the menu using the joystick (up, down, left, right) to find "VIDEO OUTPUT".
- Select the appropriate video standard (TVI, AHD, CVI, or CVBS) and resolution (e.g., 5MP 20fps for TVI/AHD, 4MP 30fps for CVI). Note: CVI does not support 5MP.
- Select "REBOOT & APPLY" to save changes and restart the camera.
- If the camera screen goes black (no signal/no image) after changing modes, press the joystick to the UP direction for approximately 10 seconds to revert to the default Analog working mode.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 General Operation
Once properly connected and configured, the camera will continuously transmit video to your DVR. The DVR is responsible for recording, playback, and remote viewing functionalities. This camera does not have built-in recording or remote viewing capabilities.
5.2 Wide Angle Surveillance
The 180-degree wide-angle lens provides extensive coverage, effectively replacing the need for multiple standard cameras in many scenarios. This reduces cable requirements and installation complexity.

Figure 5.1: 180-Degree Wide Angle Coverage. This image demonstrates the broad surveillance area provided by the camera's 180-degree lens, capable of covering a large room from a single vantage point.
5.3 Day and Night Vision
The camera automatically switches between day (color) and night (black and white infrared) modes based on ambient light conditions. The integrated IR LEDs provide illumination in low-light or no-light environments.

6. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your security camera, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning the Dome: Regularly clean the camera's dome cover. Dust, dirt, and water spots can accumulate, especially in outdoor environments, and may reduce image clarity. Use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe the dome. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Environmental Conditions: While the camera is rated IP54 for dust and splash resistance, it is recommended to install it under a roof or protected area when used outdoors to minimize exposure to harsh weather conditions.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically check all cable connections for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Ensure they remain securely plugged in.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your DCSEC security camera, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Problem: Image is not 5MP or appears blurry/low resolution.
Solution: The camera's default mode is Analog (CVBS 960H). You must change the video output mode to match your DVR's input (TVI, AHD, or CVI) and select the appropriate resolution (e.g., 5MP). Refer to Section 4.4 for detailed instructions on using the OSD menu via the joystick cable. - Problem: No signal or black screen on the monitor/DVR.
Solution:- Check all power connections to ensure the camera is receiving 12V DC power.
- Verify that the BNC video cable is securely connected to both the camera and the DVR's video input.
- Ensure the camera's video output mode matches your DVR's input. If unsure, press the joystick UP for 10 seconds to revert to default Analog mode, then re-attempt mode switching.
- Test with a different video input port on the DVR or a different cable if available.
- Problem: Night vision is unclear or has a short range.
Solution: Ensure the camera is not installed too close to a wall or large reflective object. Such objects can reflect the infrared light back into the camera, causing overexposure and reducing the effective range and clarity of night vision. - Problem: Camera image has distorted colors or is black and white during the day.
Solution: This might indicate an issue with the IR-Cut filter or incorrect video mode setting. Ensure the camera is set to the correct HD mode (TVI/AHD/CVI) for your DVR, as CVBS mode might sometimes affect color accuracy. If the issue persists, contact support.
