4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Preparing Your Pet

Acclimating your pet to the grinder is crucial for a stress-free experience. Start with short, positive sessions.

  • Allow your pet to inspect the tool while it is off. Offer treats and praise.
  • Turn the tool on briefly near your pet (but not touching them) to familiarize them with the sound and vibration. Continue with treats and praise.
  • Gently touch the grinder (while off) to your pet's paws.

4.2 Grinding Nails

The variable speed slide switch allows for precise control suitable for various pet sizes and nail thicknesses.

  1. Hold your pet's paw firmly but gently. Ensure any fur is out of the way to prevent entanglement.
  2. Turn on the grinder and select a low speed initially.
  3. Gently touch the rotating sanding accessory to the tip of the nail. Grind in short bursts of 1-2 seconds, then lift the tool. This prevents excessive heat buildup.
  4. Work around the nail, shaping it smoothly. Avoid grinding too deeply to prevent reaching the quick.
  5. Regularly check the nail for heat and the desired length.
  6. Repeat for all nails, taking breaks as needed.

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Dremel PawControl.

  • Ensure the tool is turned off and disconnected from any charging source.
  • Remove the nail guard and any sanding accessories.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the tool's body.
  • Clean any accumulated nail dust from the nail guard and around the collet area. A small brush can be helpful.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.

5.2 Replacing Accessories

Sanding accessories will wear down over time and should be replaced to maintain grinding efficiency.

  • Follow the steps in Section 3.2 to remove the worn accessory.
  • Install a new, compatible Dremel sanding accessory.

Tool runs slowly or stops. Low battery; accessory is jammed or worn. Recharge battery; check for obstructions; replace accessory if worn.
Nail heats up during grinding. Prolonged contact with the nail; high speed setting. Grind in shorter bursts (1-2 seconds); use a lower speed setting; allow nail to cool between passes.
Pet shows discomfort or fear. Not properly acclimated; sensitive to vibration/sound. Re-engage in acclimation steps (Section 4.1); use positive reinforcement; ensure short, gentle sessions.
