It features an oval-shaped sleeve, ample packing material, a straight baffle for optimal flow, an aluminum end-cap, and a stainless steel tail-pipe.
Important Safety and Legal Notes:
- Some products may not be legal for sale or use on pollution-controlled vehicles. Always check your local laws and the manufacturer's information before installation and use.
- Discoloration (blueing) of exhaust pipes and mufflers is a normal occurrence caused by tuning characteristics such as cam timing or carb jetting, and is not indicative of defective manufacturing. There is no warranty coverage for such discoloration.
- Professional installation is highly recommended to ensure proper fitment and performance.

3. Setup and Installation
Follow these general steps for installing your Yoshimura RS-3 Slip-On Exhaust System. Specific torque values and detailed steps may vary by motorcycle model; always consult your motorcycle's service manual for precise instructions.
- Preparation: Ensure the motorcycle is cool. Place it on a stable stand.
- Remove Stock Exhaust: Carefully remove the existing muffler and any associated piping or heat shields. Retain any stock hardware that may be reused.
- Install Tailpipe: Attach the Yoshimura tailpipe to the motorcycle's header pipe. Do not fully tighten fasteners at this stage.
- Mount Muffler: Slide the RS-3 muffler onto the tailpipe. Secure the muffler to the motorcycle's frame using the provided mounting hardware. Ensure proper alignment.
- Connect Springs/Clamps: Attach any exhaust springs between the tailpipe and muffler sections. Secure the exhaust clamp around the connection point if applicable.
- Final Tightening: Once all components are aligned and in place, progressively tighten all mounting bolts and clamps to the manufacturer's specified torque values.
- Inspect: Double-check all connections for tightness and ensure there is adequate clearance from other motorcycle components.

4. Operating Considerations
After installation, it is normal for the exhaust system to emit a slight odor and smoke for the first few minutes of operation as manufacturing oils and residues burn off. The exhaust note will typically settle after a short break-in period. Always operate your motorcycle responsibly and in accordance with local traffic laws and noise regulations.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will help preserve the appearance and performance of your Yoshimura exhaust system.
- Cleaning: Clean the exhaust system regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. For stainless steel components, use a non-abrasive metal polish.
- Inspection: Periodically check all mounting bolts and clamps for tightness. Inspect the muffler packing for signs of degradation; worn packing can lead to increased noise levels and reduced performance.
- Repacking: The muffler packing material will degrade over time. Consult Yoshimura's official resources for recommended repacking intervals and procedures.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter.
- Excessive Noise: Check for loose connections, cracks in the exhaust system, or degraded muffler packing.
- Performance Issues: Ensure the exhaust system is properly installed and sealed. Consult a professional mechanic if performance issues persist, as they may indicate engine tuning requirements.
- Discoloration: As noted in the introduction, blueing or discoloration of the exhaust is a normal characteristic of high-performance exhaust systems and is not a defect.
