  • Always ensure the cargo carrier is securely attached to the vehicle's hitch receiver using the provided hitch pins.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 500 pounds distributed weight.
  • Distribute cargo evenly across the carrier to maintain vehicle stability.
  • Secure all cargo with appropriate tie-downs to prevent shifting or falling during transit.
  • Regularly inspect the carrier for any signs of damage, wear, or loose fasteners before each use.
  • Be aware of the increased length and width of your vehicle when the carrier is installed, especially when backing up or maneuvering.
  • Ensure that the vehicle's exhaust system does not direct hot gases directly onto the cargo or carrier, which could cause damage or fire.
  • Check local and state regulations regarding cargo carrier usage, including visibility of license plates and taillights. Additional lighting or license plate relocation may be required.

4. Setup and Assembly

The cargo basket comes pre-assembled. Only the heavy-duty steel frame under support needs to be attached, along with the reflector lenses.

Required Tools:

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • 10mm socket or wrench
  • 4mm Allen wrench (hex key)
  • 1 inch socket or adjustable wrench (for folding mechanism bolt)

Assembly Steps:

  1. Attach Steel Frame to Basket: Position the heavy-duty steel frame under the pre-assembled aluminum basket. Align the bolt holes. Secure the frame to the basket using the provided bolts, nuts, and washers. A 10mm socket/wrench and 4mm Allen wrench are typically used for these fasteners. Ensure all connections are tight.
  2. Install Folding Mechanism Bolt: Connect the folding part of the carrier to the hitch shaft using the large bolt and nut. Tighten securely with a 1-inch socket or adjustable wrenches.
  3. Install Reflector Lenses: Attach the two red reflector lenses to the designated points on the rear of the cargo carrier using a Phillips head screwdriver. Ensure they are facing outwards for maximum visibility.
  4. Insert Hitch Pins: Once assembled, insert the two hitch pins into the appropriate holes on the hitch shaft. These pins secure the carrier to your vehicle's hitch receiver.

5. Operation

Attaching to Vehicle:

  1. Slide the 2" x 2" hitch shaft of the cargo carrier into your vehicle's Class III or IV hitch receiver.
  2. Align the pin holes and insert the provided hitch pins to secure the carrier. Ensure the pins are fully engaged and secured with their clips.
  3. For added stability and to reduce wobble, consider using a hitch stabilizer (sold separately).

Loading Cargo:

  • Ensure the total weight of your cargo does not exceed the 500-pound distributed weight capacity.
  • Distribute the weight evenly across the carrier surface. Avoid placing heavy items solely on one side.
  • Utilize the high side rails and multiple tie-down points to secure your cargo using straps, bungee cords, or netting. Ensure cargo cannot shift or fall out during travel.
  • Verify that the cargo does not obstruct the vehicle's taillights, turn signals, or license plate. Adjust cargo or consider auxiliary lighting if necessary.

Folding the Carrier:

When not in use, the cargo carrier can be folded upwards for compact storage and to reduce vehicle length.

  1. Ensure all cargo is removed from the carrier.
  2. Locate the folding mechanism near the hitch receiver. Depending on the design, this may involve pulling a pin or releasing a latch.
  3. Carefully pivot the carrier upwards until it locks into the vertical position. Ensure it is securely latched or pinned in the folded position.

6. Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Before each use, inspect all components for signs of wear, damage, cracks, or corrosion. Pay close attention to welds, bolts, and the hitch connection point.
  • Fastener Check: Periodically check and tighten all bolts, nuts, and fasteners to ensure they remain secure. Loose fasteners can lead to instability and potential failure.
  • Cleaning: Clean the cargo carrier regularly with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the aluminum finish or steel coating.
  • Lubrication: Apply a light lubricant to the folding mechanism pivot points annually or as needed to ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the cargo carrier in a dry place to prolong its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Carrier wobbles or rattles excessively.Loose hitch connection; unevenly distributed load; worn components.Ensure hitch pins are fully engaged. Tighten all assembly bolts. Redistribute cargo evenly. Consider purchasing a hitch stabilizer. Inspect for worn parts and replace if necessary.
Difficulty folding/unfolding.Rust or debris in pivot points; bent components.Clean and lubricate pivot points. Check for any obstructions or bent parts preventing smooth movement. Do not force the mechanism.
Cargo not secure.Insufficient tie-downs; improper tie-down technique.Use appropriate straps or netting. Ensure cargo is tightly secured to multiple tie-down points. Verify straps are not loose after initial movement.
Reflectors are loose or missing.Loose screws; impact damage.Tighten screws. Replace damaged or missing reflectors immediately for safety.
