Product Overview

The JBL FLIP 5 features a racetrack-shaped driver for powerful sound and dual passive radiators for enhanced bass. Its compact cylindrical design allows for versatile placement, either vertical or horizontal.

Controls and Indicators

The speaker features intuitive controls located on its surface for easy operation.

• Power Button: Press to turn the speaker on or off.
• Bluetooth Button: Press to enter Bluetooth pairing mode.
• Volume Up (+): Increases the volume.
• Volume Down (-): Decreases the volume.
• Play/Pause Button (Triangle): Plays or pauses audio. Also used to answer/end calls.
• PartyBoost Button (Infinity Symbol): Activates PartyBoost mode to link with other compatible JBL speakers.
• USB-C Charging Port: For charging the speaker.

Setup

Charging the Speaker

Before first use, fully charge your JBL FLIP 5. Connect the provided Type-C to Type-A charging cable to the USB-C port on the speaker and a power source. The LED indicator will show charging status.

Bluetooth Pairing

1. Turn on the JBL FLIP 5 by pressing the Power button.
2. Press the Bluetooth button on the speaker. The LED indicator will flash blue, indicating it's in pairing mode.
3. On your device (smartphone, tablet, computer), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
4. Select "JBL FLIP 5" from the list to connect. Once connected, the LED indicator will turn solid blue.

Operating Instructions

Basic Audio Playback

• Play/Pause: Press the Play/Pause button once.
• Volume Control: Use the Volume Up (+) or Volume Down (-) buttons.
• Skip Track: Double-press the Play/Pause button to skip to the next track.

PartyBoost Mode

PartyBoost allows you to pair two JBL PartyBoost-compatible speakers together for stereo sound or link multiple JBL PartyBoost-compatible speakers to create a bigger party. Note: Only JBL speakers with PartyBoost can be paired together. Speakers with Connect+ cannot be paired with PartyBoost speakers.

1. Ensure both JBL FLIP 5 speakers are powered on.
2. Press the PartyBoost button on the first speaker.
3. Press the PartyBoost button on the second speaker. They will automatically connect.
4. For stereo sound, use the JBL Portable app to configure the speakers for left/right channel assignment.

Care and Maintenance

The JBL FLIP 5 is IPX7 waterproof, meaning it can be immersed in water up to 1 meter (3 feet) for up to 30 minutes. To ensure longevity and proper function:

• After exposure to water, ensure the USB-C charging port is completely dry before charging. Charging a wet port can cause damage.
• Clean the speaker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
• Avoid exposing the speaker to extreme temperatures.

Troubleshooting

• No Power: Ensure the battery is charged. Connect the speaker to a power source using the provided USB-C cable.
• Cannot Pair Bluetooth: Make sure the speaker is in pairing mode (flashing blue LED). Check your device's Bluetooth settings and ensure it's discoverable. Try restarting both the speaker and your device.
• No Sound: Check the volume levels on both the speaker and your connected device. Ensure the speaker is properly paired.
• Sound Distortion: Lower the volume on both the speaker and your connected device. Ensure the speaker is not placed too close to other electronic devices that might cause interference.
• PartyBoost Not Connecting: Ensure all speakers are JBL PartyBoost-compatible models. Press the PartyBoost button on all speakers within a few seconds of each other.
