1. Introduction

3. What's in the Box

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the manifold.
  2. Open the compartment cover.
  3. Insert 6 AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

4.2. Connecting Thermocouples

  1. Connect the TC24 Wired Type-K Pipe Clamp Thermocouples to the protected thermocouple jacks on the manifold.
  2. Connect the ATA1 Type-K Bead Thermocouple to its designated jack if needed for ambient or specific component temperature readings.

4.3. Hose Connections

The SM480V features a four-valve manifold. Connect your refrigerant hoses to the appropriate ports:

  • Low Side: Typically blue hose.
  • High Side: Typically red hose.
  • Vacuum Port (VAC): For connecting to a vacuum pump.
  • Refrigerant Port (REF): For connecting to a refrigerant tank.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

Press and hold the power button to turn the unit on or off. A short press will toggle the backlight.

5.2. Selecting Refrigerant

Use the 'MENU' button to navigate to the refrigerant selection. Use the arrow buttons to scroll through the available refrigerants (e.g., R22, R410A, R134a, R404A, R407C, R448A, R449A, R452A, R32, R454B, R454C, R407A, R407F, R422B, R422C, R422D, R507A, R513A, R1234yf, R1234ze, R600a, R290, R744). Press 'ENTER' to confirm your selection. The SM480V supports downloading new refrigerants via the Job Link app.

5.3. Taking Measurements

Once connected to the system and refrigerant is selected, the manifold will display real-time pressure and temperature readings. Superheat and subcooling values will be calculated automatically based on the connected thermocouples.

5.4. Data Logging

The SM480V can log data internally. To initiate data logging:

  1. Navigate to the data logging menu.
  2. Set the desired logging duration and interval.
  3. Start the logging process. The manifold will store measurements, which can be downloaded later via the Micro USB port.

5.5. System Tightness Test

Utilize the temperature compensated system tightness test feature to accurately detect leaks in the system. Follow the on-screen prompts to perform the test.

5.6. Wireless Connectivity (Job Link App)

Connect your SM480V to the Fieldpiece Job Link app on your smartphone or tablet for remote monitoring, advanced diagnostics, and report generation. This allows you to view readings from a distance and manage job data efficiently.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

Wipe the manifold with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the unit is dry before storage.

6.2. Battery Replacement

Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure continuous operation and accurate readings.

6.3. Sensor Calibration

Regularly check and calibrate sensors as per manufacturer recommendations to maintain accuracy. Refer to the Job Link app or Fieldpiece website for detailed calibration procedures.

6.4. Firmware Updates

Periodically check for firmware updates via the Fieldpiece website or Job Link app. Updates can provide new features, refrigerant profiles, and performance improvements. Use the Micro USB port to update firmware.
