3. Setup Instructions
3.1 Package Contents
- Microphone Boom Arm Stand
- Desk Mounting Clamp
- Microphone Clip
- 5/8" to 3/8" Screw Adapter
- Pop Filter
- Microphone Holder (for mics 32-58mm diameter)
- Cable Ties (InnoGear branded)
3.2 Assembly Steps
- Attach the Desk Clamp: Secure the desk mounting clamp to a flat desk edge (maximum 2 inches thick). Tighten the side screw firmly until the clamp is stable. Ensure the sponge pad is positioned to protect your desk surface.
- Insert the Boom Arm: Slide the base of the boom arm into the hole on the desk clamp. Tighten the locking knob on the clamp to secure the arm in place.
- Attach Microphone Adapter/Clip:
- For microphones with a 5/8" thread (e.g., Blue Yeti, HyperX QuadCast), screw the microphone directly onto the arm's 5/8" screw.
- For microphones with a 3/8" thread (e.g., some shock mounts), first screw the included 5/8" to 3/8" adapter onto the arm, then attach your microphone or shock mount.
- For dynamic microphones (e.g., Shure SM58) or microphones with 32-58mm diameter, attach the appropriate microphone clip or holder to the arm's screw, then insert your microphone into the clip/holder.
- Install the Pop Filter: Loosen the clamp on the pop filter and attach it to a suitable section of the boom arm. Adjust its position and angle using the flexible gooseneck until it is directly in front of your microphone.
- Cable Management: Use the provided cable ties to neatly secure your microphone cable along the boom arm, preventing tangles and ensuring a clean setup.

4. Operating Your Mic Stand
4.1 Adjusting the Arm
The boom arm is designed for smooth and silent adjustments. To change the height or angle, gently move the arm to your desired position. The internal springs will hold the arm in place. For fine-tuning, utilize the 360° base rotation and the 270° metal adapter at the microphone end.
4.2 Microphone Placement
Position your microphone approximately 6-12 inches (15-30 cm) from your mouth for optimal sound capture. Experiment with different distances and angles to find the best sound quality for your specific recording environment and microphone type.
4.3 Using the Pop Filter
Place the pop filter between your mouth and the microphone, typically 1-2 inches (2.5-5 cm) from the microphone. This will effectively block plosive sounds (harsh 'P' and 'B' sounds) and protect your microphone from moisture, ensuring clearer audio recordings.
5. Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the stand regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Lubrication: The joints and springs are designed for smooth operation. If any squeaking occurs over time, a small amount of silicone-based lubricant can be applied to the pivot points.
- Storage: When not in use, the stand can be easily folded and pushed away for space-saving storage. Ensure it is stored in a dry environment to prevent rust.
- Spring Tension: Periodically check the spring tension. If the stand struggles to hold heavier microphones, consider adjusting the springs to the second hole for increased load-bearing capacity as described in Section 2.2.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Stand does not hold position / sags | Microphone too heavy; springs not set for max load; clamp not tight enough. | Ensure microphone weight is within 3.3 lb (1.5 kg). Adjust springs to the second hole for increased load capacity. Re-tighten the desk clamp and the locking knob on the arm. |
| Squeaking noise from arm joints | Lack of lubrication at pivot points. | Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the joints and pivot points. |
| Microphone not fitting the arm's screw | Incorrect screw thread size. | Use the included 5/8" to 3/8" adapter if your microphone or shock mount has a 3/8" thread. Ensure you are using the correct microphone clip/holder for your mic's diameter. |
| Desk clamp not stable | Desk edge is slanted, curved, or too thick/thin. | Ensure desk edge is flat and within the 2-inch thickness limit. Re-tighten the clamp screw. |
