1. Introduction
The TAKEX FS-3100 is an indoor flame sensor designed for rapid detection of flames using ultraviolet (UV) detection technology. It features voice message capabilities and adjustable settings for sensitivity and detection timer, making it suitable for various fire prevention and safety applications. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of the device.
Safety Precautions
- Read all instructions carefully before installation and operation.
- Ensure power is disconnected before performing any wiring or maintenance.
- This device is designed for indoor use only. Do not expose to direct sunlight, rain, or high humidity.
- Avoid installing in locations with strong air currents, vibrations, or where foreign objects may obstruct the detection area.
- Do not disassemble or modify the unit. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
2. Product Overview and Features
The FS-3100 flame sensor utilizes UV detection to identify flames quickly. It offers customizable voice messages and alarm sounds, along with external alarm output capabilities.
Figure 2.1: Front view of the TAKEX FS-3100 Flame Sensor. This image shows the compact, brown-colored sensor unit designed for discreet indoor installation.
Key Features:
- Rapid Flame Detection: Capable of detecting a 7cm flame at a distance of 10 meters.
- UV Detection Method: Utilizes ultraviolet light detection (wavelength 185-260nm) for reliable flame identification.
- Voice Message and Alarm Output: Provides selectable voice messages or an alarm sound, with simultaneous external alarm output.
- Adjustable Sensitivity: Two sensitivity levels (H: 100%, L: 50%) to suit different environments.
- Configurable Detection Timer: Four timer settings (1, 3, 6, 15 seconds) to prevent false alarms.
- Tamper Output: Alerts if the sensor unit is removed from its base.
- Snap-in Mounting: Easy attachment and detachment of the sensor unit from the base.
3. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. The FS-3100 can be mounted on ceilings or walls indoors.
3.1 Mounting Location
- Install indoors on a ceiling or wall.
- Ensure the detection area is clear of obstructions.
- Avoid locations where the sensor might be exposed to direct sunlight, strong artificial light sources (e.g., arc welding), or rapid temperature changes, which could cause false alarms.
- Consider the conical detection angle of approximately 120 degrees when positioning.

Figure 3.2: Detection area diagram for the TAKEX FS-3100. This illustrates the conical detection range, showing how a 7cm lighter flame can be detected up to 10 meters away, with a 1-second detection timer and high sensitivity (H: 100%).
3.2 Wiring
The sensor uses a separate base for terminal connections (M3 self-up terminals).
- Power Supply: Connect to a DC10V-30V power source. The connection is non-polar.
- Alarm Output: Voltage-free relay contact (c-contact). Contact capacity: AC/DC30V, 0.3A (resistive load).
- Tamper Output: Voltage-free contact (b-contact). Contact rating: AC/DC30V, 0.1A (resistive load). This contact opens when the sensor unit is removed from the base.
- Ensure all wiring is secure and correctly connected to prevent malfunctions.
3.3 Initial Setup
After mounting and wiring, configure the sensor settings using the internal DIP switches and volume knob.
- Sensitivity Setting: Select High (H: 100%) or Low (L: 50%) via the DIP switch.
- Detection Timer: Choose 1, 3, 6, or 15 seconds via the DIP switch.
- Voice/Alarm Sound Selection: Select from two voice notifications or one alarm sound via the DIP switch.
- Volume Adjustment: Adjust the voice/alarm sound volume using the volume knob (from mute to maximum).
4. Operating Instructions
Once installed and configured, the FS-3100 operates automatically to detect flames.
4.1 Flame Detection and Alarm
- When a flame is detected within the specified area and duration (based on timer setting), the sensor will activate.
- The selected voice message or alarm sound will be emitted.
- The alarm output relay will activate (off-delay operation for approximately 2 seconds).
- The alarm indicator light will flash in sync with the voice output during an alarm.
4.2 Alarm Memory Function
- After an alarm event, the alarm indicator light will remain illuminated for approximately 50 minutes.
- This auto-reset function helps identify which sensor triggered an alarm, even after the immediate event has passed.
4.3 Voice Message Options
The FS-3100 offers three selectable audio outputs:
- No Smoking Notification (approx. 6 seconds): "(Pooh) This area is non-smoking. Please refrain from smoking."
- No Open Flames Notification (approx. 7 seconds): "(Pooh) Open flames are strictly prohibited here. Please refrain from using open flames outside designated areas."
- Alarm Sound (approx. 10 seconds): "(Beep beep beep...)"
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the long-term reliability and performance of your FS-3100 flame sensor.
- Cleaning: Periodically wipe the sensor lens and body with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and dirt. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Functionality Check: Test the sensor periodically by safely introducing a small flame (e.g., a lighter) into the detection area to confirm alarm activation and output.
- Wiring Inspection: Annually inspect all wiring connections for tightness and signs of wear or damage.
- Environmental Check: Ensure the installation environment remains free from new obstructions or sources of false alarms.
6. Troubleshooting
If the sensor is not functioning as expected, refer to the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Sensor does not alarm when flame is present. |
|
|
| Sensor triggers false alarms. |
|
|
| No voice message or alarm sound. |
|
|
| Tamper alarm activates unexpectedly. |
