4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Choosing an Installation Location

Select a location that receives direct sunlight for most of the day to ensure the solar panel can fully charge the internal battery. Avoid areas under eaves, trees, or other obstructions that might block sunlight. The recommended installation height is 7-10 feet for optimal motion detection range (16-26 feet).

4.2 Initial Charging

Before first use, ensure the solar light is placed in direct sunlight for at least 8 hours to allow the internal battery to fully charge. The solar panel has a conversion rate of more than 17.4% and can fully charge the 1500mAh built-in battery in about 8 hours on a sunny day.

4.3 Mounting Instructions

  1. Prepare the Surface: Identify the desired mounting location. Ensure the surface is stable and can support the light.
  2. Mark Drill Points: Hold the light's mounting bracket against the wall and mark the positions for the screw holes.
  3. Drill Holes: Drill holes at the marked points. The recommended drill bit size is approximately 0.02 feet (6mm) in diameter.
  4. Insert Wall Plugs: Insert the provided rubber plugs into the drilled holes.
  5. Secure the Light: Align the mounting bracket with the holes and firmly secure the light using the provided screws and T-wrench.
  6. Adjust Solar Panel: Adjust the solar panel's angle (up to 180 degrees) to face the direction that receives the most direct sunlight throughout the day.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Automatic Operation

The BNT Solar Motion Sensor Light is designed for fully automatic operation:

  • Daytime: During daylight hours, the built-in photocell sensor detects sufficient light, and the unit will automatically switch off to conserve energy and charge its battery.
  • Nighttime - Standby Mode: As darkness falls, the light will automatically enter a standby mode, indicated by a single red LED light that remains on. This red light is designed to mimic a surveillance camera, providing a visual deterrent.
  • Nighttime - Motion Activated: When motion is detected within its 10-26 foot range and 120-degree angle, the light will automatically switch to a high-bright lighting mode for approximately 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, if no further motion is detected, it will revert to the red light standby mode.
Comparison of light modes: single red LED on at night (top) and strong light for 15-20 seconds after motion activated (bottom).

5.2 Application Scenarios

This versatile solar light is suitable for various outdoor locations:

  • Yard Lighting: Illuminates pathways and open yard spaces.
  • Pool Lighting: Provides security and visibility around pool areas.
  • Stair Lighting: Enhances safety on outdoor stairs.
  • Driveway Lighting: Lights up driveways for safe vehicle and pedestrian movement.
  • Garage/Porch/Patio: Ideal for entryways and outdoor living spaces.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the optimal performance and longevity of your BNT Solar Motion Sensor Light, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Clean Solar Panel: Regularly wipe the solar panel with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, leaves, or snow. A clean panel ensures maximum sunlight absorption and efficient charging.
  • Clean Light Sensor/Lens: Keep the motion sensor and LED lens clean to ensure accurate detection and clear illumination.
  • Inspect Mounting: Periodically check the mounting screws and bracket to ensure the light remains securely fastened. Tighten if necessary.
  • Battery Life: The integrated lithium metal batteries are designed for long life. If the light's performance significantly degrades over time, it may indicate the battery is reaching the end of its lifespan.
  • Water Resistance: While the product is IP66 waterproof, avoid submerging it in water or exposing it to high-pressure water jets. Ensure the unit is properly sealed after any inspection or adjustment.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your BNT Solar Motion Sensor Light, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Light does not turn on at night.Insufficient solar charge.Ensure the solar panel is receiving 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Clean the solar panel if dirty.
Light stays on during the day.Photocell sensor is obstructed or faulty.Ensure no debris is covering the photocell sensor. Relocate the light if it's in a consistently shaded area.
Motion sensor is not detecting movement or has poor range.Sensor obstructed, incorrect installation height, or environmental interference.Clear any obstructions from the sensor lens. Verify installation height is 7-10 feet. Avoid placing near heat sources or reflective surfaces.
Light duration is shorter than expected.Insufficient charge or aging battery.Ensure maximum sun exposure for charging. Battery performance may decrease over time; consider replacement if available or contact support.
Water inside the light housing.Seal compromise or extreme weather. While IP66 rated, extreme conditions or damage can compromise seals. Ensure proper installation. If water ingress occurs, discontinue use and contact support.
