1. Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Hecht 5511 Gasoline Lawn Mower. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the machine to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury or damage.

Figure 1: Overview of the Hecht 5511 Gasoline Lawn Mower.
The Hecht 5511 is a powerful 4-stroke gasoline lawn mower designed for efficient lawn care. It features a 51 cm cutting width, 5-level cutting height adjustment (30-80 mm), mulching function, and side discharge capability. Its robust steel housing and ergonomic design ensure durability and comfortable operation.
2. Safety Instructions
Always prioritize safety when operating the lawn mower. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.
- Read and understand the entire manual before operation.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including eye protection, hearing protection, sturdy footwear, and long pants.
- Keep children and bystanders away from the operating area.
- Inspect the area for objects that could be thrown by the blade before mowing.
- Never operate the mower without the discharge guard or grass catcher in place.
- Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Avoid spilling fuel.
- Do not operate the mower in wet grass or on steep slopes where you could lose footing.
- Turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or clearing blockages.

Warning: Do not operate without guard in place. Ensure all safety guards are securely attached before starting the engine.
3. Setup and Assembly
3.1 Handlebar Assembly
The handlebar may require assembly or unfolding from its storage position. Secure all bolts and knobs firmly to ensure stability during operation.

The handlebar features a soft grip for comfortable handling and can be folded for space-saving storage.
3.2 Fuel and Oil Filling
Before first use, fill the engine with appropriate gasoline and engine oil. Refer to the engine manufacturer's recommendations for fuel type and oil specifications.
- Fuel Tank: Capacity 0.9 liters. Use unleaded gasoline.
- Oil Tank: Capacity 0.55 liters. Use recommended 4-stroke engine oil.
Ensure caps are securely tightened after filling. Do not overfill.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Starting the Engine
- Ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is correct.
- Move the throttle lever to the "START" position.
- Grip the engine brake lever (usually on the handlebar) and hold it against the handle.
- Pull the starter cord firmly and smoothly until the engine starts. Do not let the cord snap back.
- Once the engine is running, release the starter cord and allow the engine to warm up for a few moments.

4.2 Adjusting Cutting Height
The cutting height can be adjusted to 5 levels, ranging from 30 mm to 80 mm. Locate the height adjustment lever on the mower deck and move it to the desired position. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
4.3 Mulching and Side Discharge
The Hecht 5511 offers both mulching and side discharge functions. For mulching, ensure the side discharge chute is closed and the mulching plug (if separate) is installed. For side discharge, attach the side discharge chute and remove the mulching plug (if applicable).

Figure 6: View of the engine and cutting deck, showing the side discharge area.
The side discharge feature allows grass clippings to be ejected to the side, useful for taller grass or when mulching is not desired.
4.4 Mowing Tips
- Mow in overlapping rows for a uniform cut.
- Do not attempt to cut too much grass at once; adjust cutting height as needed.
- The larger rear tires facilitate easier maneuvering across your lawn.
4.5 Stopping the Engine
To stop the engine, release the engine brake lever. The engine will shut off automatically. Wait for all moving parts to stop before approaching the mower.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your lawn mower. Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning: Clean the mower deck and engine area after each use to prevent grass buildup.
- Oil Change: Change engine oil according to the engine manufacturer's schedule, typically after the first 5 hours and then every 25-50 hours of operation.
- Air Filter: Inspect and clean or replace the air filter regularly.
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean or replace the spark plug as needed. The electrode distance should be 0.7 - 0.8 mm.
- Blade Maintenance: Inspect the blade for sharpness and damage. Sharpen or replace the blade as necessary. Ensure the blade screw is tightened to 50 Nm.
- Storage: For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank or use a fuel stabilizer. Clean the mower thoroughly and store it in a dry, protected area. The foldable handle helps save space.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your lawn mower.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine does not start | No fuel; old fuel; spark plug issue; engine brake not engaged. | Check fuel level; replace old fuel; inspect/clean/replace spark plug; ensure engine brake lever is held. |
| Engine runs rough or stalls | Dirty air filter; stale fuel; carburetor issue. | Clean/replace air filter; use fresh fuel; consult a service technician for carburetor issues. |
| Uneven cut | Blade dull or damaged; cutting height unevenly set; wheels not properly inflated (if pneumatic). | Sharpen or replace blade; ensure all wheels are at the same cutting height. |
| Excessive vibration | Damaged or unbalanced blade; loose components. | Inspect blade for damage and balance; check all fasteners for tightness. |
If you encounter persistent issues or problems beyond basic troubleshooting, contact a qualified service technician.
