1. Product Overview

2. Before Installation

Measuring Your Window:

Accurate measurements are crucial for a perfect fit. Please follow these steps carefully:

1. Measure the inside width of the window opening in 3 places (top, middle, bottom).
2. Measure the inside height of the window opening in 3 places (left, middle, right).
3. Provide the smallest width and height measurements. Measure accurately to the closest 1/16". DO NOT DEDUCT OR ADD.

A professional installer will review your photos and design the framing to work with your window. Information will be confirmed with you before production. You do not need to remove any existing trim or sills.

Panel and Frame Types:

3. Installation Guide

Follow these steps for a successful DIY installation of your SUNCRAFT SHUTTERS.

3.1. Frame Installation

1. Verify Frame Orientation: Ensure the frame is right side up by checking any attached labels.
2. Pre-drilled Holes: Frames come with pre-drilled installation holes. If holes are missing or need to be re-drilled, use a 3/8" (10mm) drill bit, preferably a Forstner bit, to drill new holes. Note: Twist bits can be difficult for this application.
3. Insert Top Screws: Insert screws into the pre-drilled holes at the top of each side frame.
4. Center and Secure Frame: Center the frame in the window opening and set the screws into the window jams.

3.2. Panel Installation

1. Place Panels: Once the frame is secured, place the panel(s) into the frame.
2. Insert Hinge Pins: Insert the hinge pins to secure the panels.
3. Level Bottom Frame: Move the bottom frame left or right until the panel(s) are level.
4. Secure Bottom Frame: When the panel(s) are level and square within the frame (or with each other), hold the bottom frame in position and set a screw in the middle of the bottom frame hole.
5. Check Leveling: Check the panel(s) again to ensure they are level. Note: Setting a screw into the bottom frame may not always be possible. If this is the case, set a screw into the bottom of one of the frame sides and re-check.
6. Adjust Side Frame (if needed): If moving the bottom frame left or right did not result in a level panel with even light gaps, remove one of the top screws. Move the side frame up or down to achieve the best fit. If this doesn't resolve the issue, try moving the top frame left or right to achieve level panels.
7. Insert Remaining Screws: Once the panels are level, insert screws into the remaining holes. Check again to ensure panels are level after every screw has been drilled into position.
8. Avoid Over/Under Tightening: It is possible to over-tighten or under-tighten the installation screws, which can cause the frame to distort or not be straight. Adjust tightness as needed to ensure the frame remains straight and panels operate smoothly.

3.3. Final Adjustments

1. Adjust Panel Lock Caps: The panel lock caps are pre-installed in the ends of the panels. The wheel or roller can be adjusted to achieve the ideal height for locking into the shutter frame.
2. Cap All Holes: Once all screws have been installed and panels checked, cap all holes with the provided button plugs.

4. Operating Your Shutters

SUNCRAFT SHUTTERS feature a hidden tilt rod for easy operation and a clean aesthetic.

• Adjusting Louvers: Gently push or pull any louver to adjust the angle of all louvers simultaneously. This allows you to control light and privacy.
• Opening/Closing Panels: The shutter panels can be opened like doors to fully expose the window. Ensure the louvers are in a closed or semi-closed position before opening or closing the panels to prevent damage.
• Hidden Tilt Rod: The hidden tilt rod mechanism ensures smooth and quiet operation without an visible rod, contributing to the modern look.

5. Maintenance and Care

To keep your SUNCRAFT SHUTTERS looking their best and ensure longevity, follow these simple care instructions:

• Cleaning: Spot clean as needed. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the louvers and frame. For tougher spots, a mild soap solution can be used. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these may damage the finish.
• Dusting: Regularly dust the shutters with a feather duster or a soft cloth to prevent dust buildup.
• Avoid Excessive Force: While durable, avoid applying excessive force when adjusting louvers or opening/closing panels to prevent damage to the mechanism.
• Temperature and Humidity: The poly-resin material is resistant to warping, making these shutters suitable for areas with varying temperatures and humidity, such as kitchens and bathrooms.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your SUNCRAFT SHUTTERS, please refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

• Panels Not Level: Re-check the installation steps, particularly sections 3.2 (steps 3, 6, and 7). Adjust screws and frame position as described to achieve a level fit.
• Louvers Sticking or Difficult to Adjust: Ensure no debris is lodged in the louver mechanism. Gently clean the louvers and check for any obstructions. If the issue persists, the panel might be slightly distorted due to over-tightened installation screws (refer to section 3.2, step 8). Loosen screws slightly and re-check.
• Panels Not Closing Securely: Check the panel lock caps (section 3.3, step 1) and adjust the wheel/roller height to ensure proper engagement with the shutter frame.
• Light Gaps: Minor light gaps are normal. If gaps are significant or uneven, re-evaluate the frame installation and panel leveling (section 3.2, step 6).
