4. Setup
4.1 Physical Connection
- Connect Network Cable: Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the DS-600-US and the other end to your network router or switch.
- Connect USB Devices: Plug your USB devices (e.g., printer, scanner, external hard drive) into the USB 3.0 ports on the DS-600-US.
- Connect Power: Plug the AC power adapter into the DC IN port on the DS-600-US, then plug the adapter into a power outlet. The power LED on the device server will illuminate.

4.2 Software Installation
To access USB devices connected to the DS-600-US, you must install the Silex SX Virtual Link software on your computer.
- Insert Software CD: If provided, insert the software CD into your computer's CD/DVD drive. Alternatively, download the latest software from the official Silex Technology website (www.silextechnology.com).
- Run Installer: Locate and run the installer file (e.g., 'setup.exe').
- Follow On-Screen Prompts: Follow the instructions provided by the installation wizard. You may need to restart your computer after installation.
5. Operating the Device Server
5.1 Connecting to USB Devices
- Launch SX Virtual Link: Open the SX Virtual Link software on your computer.
- Select Device Server: The software will display a list of available Silex device servers on your network. Select your DS-600-US.
- Connect USB Device: The software will show the USB devices connected to the DS-600-US. Select the desired USB device and click the 'Connect' button. The device will now appear as if it is directly connected to your computer.
5.2 Disconnecting USB Devices
To disconnect a USB device from your computer and make it available to other users or for safe removal:
- In the SX Virtual Link software, select the connected USB device.
- Click the 'Disconnect' button.
Note: Always disconnect USB storage devices safely through your operating system before disconnecting them via SX Virtual Link to prevent data loss.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Firmware Updates
Periodically check the Silex Technology website for firmware updates. Firmware updates can improve performance, add new features, or fix bugs. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update package carefully.
6.2 Cleaning
Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays, as they may damage the device.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1 Device Server Not Detected
- Ensure the DS-600-US is powered on and the power LED is illuminated.
- Verify the Ethernet cable is securely connected to both the device server and your network router/switch.
- Check your network settings to ensure your computer is on the same network segment as the device server.
- Temporarily disable any firewall software on your computer to see if it is blocking communication.
7.2 USB Device Not Connecting
- Ensure the USB device is properly plugged into the DS-600-US.
- Verify that the USB device is powered on, if it requires external power.
- Try connecting a different USB device to confirm the port on the DS-600-US is functional.
- Restart the SX Virtual Link software and try again.
- Restart the DS-600-US by unplugging and re-plugging the power adapter.
