  1. Connect the 12V Power Cable to the DC-IN port on the dash cam (refer to Image 3.3).

  3. For optional parking surveillance modes, hardwiring or an OBD II cable (sold separately) is required for continuous power when the vehicle is off.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Powering On/Off

The dash cam will automatically power on and begin continuous recording when connected to power and the vehicle ignition is on. To manually power off, use the PWR switch (refer to Image 3.4).

5.2. Recording Modes

  • Continuous Recording: The dash cam records continuously in 1-minute segments. Older files are overwritten when the memory card is full.
  • Event Recording: In the event of an impact detected by the 3-axis G-Sensor, the dash cam automatically saves a 20-second video clip (10 seconds before and 10 seconds after the impact) to a protected folder, preventing it from being overwritten.
  • Manual Recording: Press the manual recording button on the device to save a specific moment. This will save a 20-second clip (10 seconds before and 10 seconds after the button press) to a protected folder.

5.3. Parking Surveillance Modes (Requires Hardwiring/OBD II Cable)

When properly hardwired, the X700 offers advanced parking surveillance:

  • Motion Detection Recording: Records 20-second clips when motion is detected around the vehicle.
  • Impact Detection Recording: Records 20-second clips when an impact is detected while parked.
  • Time Lapse Recording: Records at 2 frames per second (fps) to cover longer periods, then converts to normal speed for playback.
  • Energy Saving Mode: Reduces power consumption by putting the dash cam into a low-power state and only waking up to record impacts.

5.4. Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)

With the included GPS antenna, the X700 provides ADAS features to enhance driving safety:

  • Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS): Alerts the driver of potential forward collisions.
  • Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS): Alerts the driver if the vehicle drifts out of its lane.
  • Front Vehicle Departure Warning (FVDW): Notifies the driver when the vehicle ahead starts to move from a complete stop.

5.5. GPS Features

The GPS antenna enables:

  • Road Safety Camera Alerts: Provides audio and visual warnings for upcoming red light cameras and speed cameras.
  • Recording of vehicle speed and location data for playback.

5.6. LCD Touchscreen Operation

The 2.7-inch LCD touchscreen allows for:

  • Instant video playback.
  • Navigation through menus and configuration of settings.
  • Live view for precise camera alignment.

6. Maintenance

6.1. MicroSD Card Management

Regularly format the microSD card (e.g., once a month) to maintain optimal recording performance and prevent file errors. This can be done via the dash cam's menu settings.

6.2. Firmware Updates

Periodically check the THINKWARE website for the latest firmware updates. Updating the firmware can improve performance, add new features, and resolve known issues. Instructions for updating are typically provided with the firmware download.

6.3. Cleaning

Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the dash cam's lens and screen. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the surfaces.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Dash Cam does not power on: Ensure the 12V power cable is securely connected to both the dash cam and the vehicle's power outlet. Check the vehicle's fuse for the power outlet.
  • Recording issues: Format the microSD card. If issues persist, try a new THINKWARE-approved microSD card. Ensure the card is inserted correctly.
  • GPS signal not acquired: Ensure the GPS antenna is connected and mounted with a clear view of the sky. Move the vehicle to an open area away from tall buildings or dense foliage.
  • ADAS alerts are too frequent/infrequent: Adjust the sensitivity settings for FCWS, LDWS, and FVDW in the dash cam's menu.
  • Screen malfunction: If the screen is unresponsive or displays abnormalities, try restarting the device. If the problem continues, refer to the warranty information for support.
  • Overheating: The dash cam has a self-protection shutdown function if temperatures exceed a certain level. Ensure the device is not exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods in extreme heat.
