4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Using the Nokia WiFi App

The Nokia WiFi app is your central control panel for managing your mesh network. It allows you to:

  • View connected devices and their signal strength.
  • Set up parental controls to manage internet access for specific devices or users.
  • Create a guest network for visitors, keeping your main network secure.
  • Monitor network security and receive alerts.
  • Perform network diagnostics and optimize performance.

4.2. Wired Connections

Each Nokia WiFi Beacon 1 unit is equipped with 4 Ethernet ports (WAN/LAN and LAN) supporting 2.5G wired backhaul and LAN connections. This allows you to connect devices such as gaming consoles, smart TVs, or network-attached storage (NAS) directly to a Beacon for maximum speed and stability.

4.3. LED Indicator Status

The LED light at the base of each Beacon indicates its current status:

  • Solid Green: All is well, Beacon is connected and operating normally.
  • Solid Blue: Setting up or booting up.
  • Solid Yellow: Startup in progress.
  • Solid Red: Has an issue (refer to troubleshooting section).

5. Maintenance

5.1. Firmware Updates

Regular firmware updates are crucial for maintaining optimal performance, security, and access to new features. The Nokia WiFi app will notify you when updates are available and guide you through the installation process. Ensure your Beacons remain powered on during updates.

5.2. Cleaning Your Beacons

To ensure proper ventilation and longevity, periodically clean your Beacon units with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.

5.3. Resetting the Device

If you encounter persistent issues, you may need to reset a Beacon to its factory settings. Locate the reset button (often a small pinhole) on the back or bottom of the unit. Use a paperclip to press and hold the button for approximately 10 seconds until the LED indicator changes, then release. This will erase all custom settings, and you will need to reconfigure the Beacon via the app.

6. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • No Internet Connection:
    • Check if your modem is working correctly.
    • Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected.
    • Restart your modem and all Nokia WiFi Beacons.
  • Weak Wi-Fi Signal:
    • Relocate Beacons to optimize coverage, ensuring they are not too far apart or obstructed by thick walls.
    • Check for sources of interference (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).
  • Device Cannot Connect:
    • Verify the Wi-Fi password.
    • Ensure the device is within range of a Beacon.
    • Restart the device you are trying to connect.
  • LED Indicator is Red:
    • This indicates a problem. Check your internet connection and the connections between your Beacons.
    • Try restarting the affected Beacon and your primary Beacon.
