1. Introduction

The Alpine iLX-W650 is a digital media receiver designed to enhance your in-car entertainment and connectivity. Featuring a 7-inch anti-glare capacitive touchscreen, this shallow-mount chassis unit supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless smartphone integration. It includes built-in Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, and is compatible with SiriusXM satellite radio (tuner not included). The intuitive swipe controls allow for easy operation, keeping your focus on the road.

2.2. Installation Overview

The iLX-W650 features a shallow-mount chassis design (2-7/16" deep) for flexible installation. It is designed to pair with Alpine's KTA-450 power pack amplifier (not included) for enhanced audio performance. Professional installation is recommended.

2.3. Wiring Connections

Connect the included wiring harness, preout/camera harness, and USB extension cable to the corresponding ports on the rear of the receiver. Ensure all connections are secure before mounting the unit.

2.4. Initial Power On

After all connections are made, turn on your vehicle's ignition to power the head unit. The unit will boot up and display the Alpine logo. Follow any on-screen prompts for initial setup.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1. Basic Controls

The iLX-W650 features a 7-inch anti-glare capacitive touchscreen with intuitive swipe controls. A two-finger swipe motion (up, down, left, or right) can control volume, track skip, and other functions without needing to precisely target specific on-screen buttons.

3.2. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Connect your compatible smartphone via the USB port to access Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. These platforms allow hands-free control of navigation, music, messaging, and other apps using voice commands (Siri Eyes Free Control for iPhone, Google Assistant for Android). Ensure your parking brake is engaged to access certain setup menus for these features.

3.3. Bluetooth Connectivity

The unit features built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling and audio streaming. Pair your device through the 'Connectivity' or 'Bluetooth' menu in the system settings.

3.4. Radio and SiriusXM

The iLX-W650 includes an AM/FM tuner. For SiriusXM satellite radio, a separate tuner (not included) is required. Once connected, SiriusXM channels can be accessed and managed through the unit's interface.

3.5. Sound Customization

Utilize the sound settings to adjust audio output, volume, and equalizer (EQ) settings. The unit is FLAC compatible and offers parametric EQ Q-factor improvements for sound tuning. It also features saving crossover settings and subwoofer gain control.

3.6. Camera Functionality

The receiver supports two camera inputs, allowing for connection of front and rear cameras for enhanced visibility and safety.

4. Maintenance

4.1. Firmware Updates

Periodically check the Alpine support website for firmware updates. Updates can provide fixes and enhancements, such as correcting issues with unit saving crossover settings, Bluetooth sound quality, steering wheel controls, and improved category search for SiriusXM. Follow the instructions provided with the firmware update file carefully. Ensure the vehicle's ignition is on and the engine is running during the update process. Do not remove the USB flash memory or press any buttons while updating.

4.2. General Care

5.1. Common Issues

  • Bluetooth Connection Issues: If the unit freezes when connecting to a phone via Bluetooth, try resetting the unit. Ensure your phone's Bluetooth is discoverable and try re-pairing.
  • Accessing Settings: Some settings, particularly during initial setup or firmware updates, require the emergency brake to be engaged for safety.
  • Firmware Update Failure: Ensure the USB flash drive is formatted to FAT32 and contains only the unzipped update folder, not individual files. Try a different manufacturer's USB memory stick if issues persist.

5.2. Factory Reset

If you encounter persistent issues, performing a factory reset may resolve them. Navigate to MENU > SETUP > SYSTEM > RESET and confirm the factory reset. This will reset all system settings to their default values.
