Safety Information
Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury.
- Do not leave the vacuum cleaner unattended when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before servicing.
- Do not use outdoors or on wet surfaces.
- Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children.
- Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer's recommended attachments.
- Do not use with damaged cord or plug. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service center.
- Do not pull or carry by cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run appliance over cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord.
- Do not handle plug or vacuum cleaner with wet hands.
- Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
- Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts.
- Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
- Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.
- Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as gasoline, or use in areas where they may be present.
- Do not use without dust bag and/or filters in place.

Setup
Follow these steps to assemble your vacuum cleaner before first use:
- Attach the Hose: Insert the end of the flexible suction hose into the suction opening on the main canister unit until it clicks securely into place.
- Connect the Wand: Attach the telescopic suction wand to the handle end of the flexible hose. Ensure it clicks firmly.
- Attach the Floorhead: Connect the SBD 365-3 Combination Floorhead to the end of the telescopic suction wand.
- Extend the Power Cord: Locate the power cord at the rear of the unit. Pull the cord out to the desired length. The cord has an automatic rewind feature.
- Plug In: Insert the power plug into a suitable electrical outlet.

Operating Instructions
Your Miele Classic C1 vacuum offers versatile cleaning options for various surfaces.
Suction Power Adjustment
The vacuum features a rotary dial with 6 suction power settings, allowing you to adjust suction based on the surface being cleaned. The settings are indicated by icons:
- Curtains: Minimum suction for delicate fabrics.
- Upholstery: Low suction for furniture and cushions.
- Rugs: Medium suction for low-pile carpets and rugs.
- Quiet: Optimized for quiet operation on various surfaces.
- Hard Floor: High suction for hard floors and heavily soiled carpets.
- Max: Maximum suction for intensive cleaning.

Using the Floorhead
The SBD 365-3 Combination Floorhead is designed for both hard floors and low-pile carpets. It features a foot switch to extend or retract bristles:
- Bristles Extended: Ideal for smooth floors like hardwood, tile, and laminate.
- Bristles Retracted: Best for low-pile carpets and rugs.

Using Attachments
The included attachments can be clipped onto the wand for easy access or used directly with the hose handle for specialized cleaning tasks:
- Dusting Brush: For dusting furniture, lamps, and delicate surfaces.
- Crevice Tool: For cleaning narrow gaps, corners, and hard-to-reach areas.
- Upholstery Tool: For cleaning upholstery, mattresses, and curtains.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Miele vacuum cleaner.
FilterBag Replacement
The AirClean System ensures maximum hygiene. Replace the FilterBag when the indicator on the canister turns completely red.
- Open the canister lid by pressing the release button.
- The FilterBag has a self-locking collar. Pull the blue collar upwards to seal the bag.
- Carefully remove the full FilterBag from its holder.
- Insert a new Miele GN FilterBag into the holder, ensuring the arrows on the collar align with the guides.
- Close the canister lid firmly until it clicks.

Filter Cleaning/Replacement
Your vacuum has a Motor Protection Filter and an AirClean Exhaust Filter. These should be replaced regularly according to usage.
- Motor Protection Filter: Located under the FilterBag. Replace after every 5 FilterBags.
- AirClean Exhaust Filter: Located at the rear of the vacuum. Replace after every 5 FilterBags.

Troubleshooting
If your vacuum cleaner is not operating correctly, consult the following common issues and solutions:
- No Suction: Check if the power cord is securely plugged in. Ensure the FilterBag is not full and is correctly inserted. Check for blockages in the hose, wand, or floorhead.
- Reduced Suction: The FilterBag may be full or a filter might be clogged. Replace the FilterBag or check/replace filters.
- Unusual Noise: This could indicate a blockage or a foreign object caught in the brush roll. Turn off and unplug the vacuum, then inspect for obstructions.
- Overheating: The vacuum may shut off automatically if it overheats. Unplug and allow it to cool down for at least 30 minutes. Check for blockages or a full FilterBag.
