Safety Instructions

Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons.

  • Read all instructions before operating the appliance.
  • Ensure the power supply matches the voltage specified on the rating plate.
  • Installation must be carried out by a qualified technician in accordance with local regulations.
  • Do not flambé under the cooker hood.
  • Regularly clean the grease filters to prevent fire hazards.
  • Do not leave frying food unattended, as overheated oil can ignite.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in the room when the cooker hood is used simultaneously with gas or other fuel-burning appliances.
  • The appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.

Setup and Installation

Unpacking

Carefully remove the cooker hood from its packaging. Check for any damage during transit. Keep packaging materials away from children.

Mounting

The Gorenje BHI611ES is designed for wall mounting. Ensure the wall structure is strong enough to support the weight of the appliance. Refer to the detailed mounting template (if provided separately) for precise drilling locations.

Ventilation Options

This cooker hood supports two types of ventilation: exhaust mode and recirculation mode.

1. Exhaust Mode (Abluftbetrieb)

In exhaust mode, cooking fumes and odors are extracted from the kitchen and expelled outside through a ducting system. This requires an external vent.

Diagram illustrating exhaust ventilation mode

Figure 2: Exhaust Mode (Abluftbetrieb). This diagram shows how air is drawn into the hood, filtered, and then vented directly outside the building.

2. Recirculation Mode (Umluftbetrieb)

In recirculation mode, air is drawn through grease filters and then through activated carbon filters (purchased separately) to remove odors. The purified air is then returned to the kitchen. This mode is suitable when external venting is not possible.

Figure 3: Recirculation Mode (Umluftbetrieb). This diagram illustrates how air is filtered for grease and odors, then recirculated back into the kitchen space.

Dimensions

Ensure sufficient space for installation. The following diagram provides the key dimensions of the cooker hood.

Fan Speed Selection

Use the fan speed rotary knob to select the desired extraction level:

  • 0: Off
  • 1: Low speed, suitable for simmering or light cooking.
  • 2: Medium speed, for general cooking.
  • 3: High speed, for intense cooking or strong odors.

Lighting

The cooker hood is equipped with LED strip lighting to illuminate your cooking area. Use the light control knob to turn the lights on or off.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your cooker hood.

Cleaning Grease Filters

The metal grease filters trap airborne grease particles. They should be cleaned regularly (approximately every 2-4 weeks, depending on usage) to prevent grease buildup and maintain extraction efficiency.

  • Removal: Locate the release latches on the filters, push them, and carefully pull the filters downwards.
  • Cleaning: Wash the filters by hand in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher on a low-temperature cycle. Ensure they are completely dry before reinstallation.
  • Reinstallation: Insert the filters back into their slots and push until the latches click into place.

Replacing Carbon Filters (Recirculation Mode Only)

If your hood is operating in recirculation mode, activated carbon filters are used to absorb odors. These filters cannot be washed and must be replaced periodically (typically every 3-6 months, depending on usage).

  • Removal: Remove the grease filters first. The carbon filters are usually attached to the motor housing. Follow the specific instructions provided with the carbon filters for removal.
  • Replacement: Install new carbon filters, ensuring they are securely fitted.
  • Reinstallation: Reinstall the grease filters.

Cleaning the Exterior

Clean the exterior surfaces of the cooker hood with a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
